Doubtless, Starmer has some big ideas, Vinny. You'll probably have the entire universe on 'iggy' at that point, though, so you shouldn't have any difficulty maintaining the delusion that you and your mates haven't turned the UK into a vassal state.

A very good idea - and one that would make a lot of difference to the cost of living of the average person.

A very good idea - and one that would make a lot of difference to the cost of living of the average person. It's common sense isn't it. The issue is, as Vinny says the government have pretty much stayed in step with the EU. What is the point of Brexit if you won't tailor the tariffs to the needs of the UK market?

Exactly, scrap all tariffs on things we don't grow, or make. Cut tariffs on oil imports too.

Have a read of this, it sums up the current 'orthodoxy' around running a government these days, Tom Slater has it spot on. www.spiked-online.com/2023/06/26/the-technocrats-have-failed-us-yet-again/

The OBR is not the ONS. The OBR is staffed with the same people who forecast an instant recession, half a million job losses and doom. www.itv.com/news/2016-05-23/osborne-brexit-would-plunge-britain-into-year-long-recessionWrong then, wrong now. Economy growing, balance of trade is much improved. Exports to the EU £43 billion above what they'd have been if we'd stayed in. The overvalued pound made our exports uncompetitive. The EU customs union forbade us from negotiating our own FTAs. Some of the EU'S policies like the CAP and the CFP are shit. We were never happy in it, always wanting reforms they opposed. It was one size fits none. It's better for everyone that we're out. And we're better off financially with above inflation growth. We'd be in recession now if we'd stayed in. We all have our biases SRB, you and I are no exceptions. But the ONS stats speak for themselves demonstrating above inflation exports. If they'd demonstrated below inflation exports I and others like me would have been forced to concede economic failure. Concede that Brexit is working.
