University funding is always inadequate and academia has always got its hand out.
If a degree is worth having then it is worth paying for, and if the youngsters want a few years doss before they hit the world of work, well, that is why we have the dole.

Eventually , the funding will follow kids to their graves when they are elderly , and be taken from whatever inheritance they may try to leave.

But, although I do not doubt that the current state of Scottish education is all the fault of the bastard English buggering Scotland's sheep and the Labour party locking up all dominies in gulags full of man eating midges, I cannot help but feel that anything free is worth what you pay for it.
All my children were either privately, home or in the cases of son and eldest grand daughter, largely self educated. We could not afford it, but the we could not afford to leave them to the well meaning incompetence of the state education system either.

My daughter goes off to university at the end of the summer , doing languages , and by the end of her hopefully successful university education can then go on to attaining a well paid job .

Best of luck to her! What languages is she studying? She is studying German and spanish , and has reasonable grasp of gaelic , and knows a bit of mandarin and various other languages.
