"In 2021/22, public spending per person in the UK as a whole was £11,897. In England, it was £11,549 (3% below the UK average). This compares with: Scotland: £13,881 (17% above the UK average)"
Abolish the Barnett formula The snp have been calling for the abolition of the barnett formula and fiscal independence for scotland for years now. Its your government that wont , because they need scottish subisidies.
No .
Education in scotland is not only devolved , but has always been run seperate under the acts of union .Keep english tuition fees out of our country.
Say no to english tuition fee debt on scottish families. Vote independence.
Rubbish. Doesnt matter if you are rich or poor. If you dont have a brain , why should you be provided free tuition at university simply because you ar poor?
Free tuition for all based on ability.
Say no to scottish universities becoming a dumping ground for unemployed kids with mediocre education like england.

University funding is always inadequate and academia has always got its hand out.
If a degree is worth having then it is worth paying for, and if the youngsters want a few years doss before they hit the world of work, well, that is why we have the dole.
well good luck any of your british parties trying to sell that mantra to scottish families borkie. Its not as if it hasnt been tried before. Labour tried to do just that to much national anger across scotland ,and were kicked out (in part) for bringing in the original tuition fees.
You and your fellow countrymen talk about broken systems and payment mantras , but tell me how is the english university system doing in terms of tuition fees? You government already has a black hole in university tuition fee funding , with the loans that have been paid out not being paid back , which is why your government is raising the timescale from 30 to 40 years in terms of paying it back and lowering the repayment threshold. Eventually , the funding will follow kids to their graves when they are elderly , and be taken from whatever inheritance they may try to leave.
Second most expensive tuition fees in the world , with england and wales and the northern irish being an outlier among european nations , and an increasingly complained about service.
In england , any old kid with half an education can go onto university ,as long as they pay(ie take on mass debt) which is leading to the devaluation of degrees , places being scarce as universities are overwhelmed , and children being indebted for the rest of their lives for worthless degrees that dont lead to well paying jobs , and an education that they could have got at the public library for free.
Meanwhile in scotland , the free tuition system only takes the cream of the scottish youngsters crop , unlike in england. and we get to charge foreigners for their places as it should be. Win win.
University student complaints hit record high in England and Wales for fourth successive year
'It's disappointing to throw that much money away'
Ryan Dunleavy of Harcus Parker, one of the law firms representing them, said: "Some have now left university, feeling thoroughly disappointed about the subpar service they received, which in no way reflected what they had been promised by their universities.
"Those who are still on courses at their universities tend to feed back to us that how they are being taught is still not up to the standard that they were promised."
A quarter of complaints to the OIA in 2022 were classed as "justified" or "partly justified", or were settled in favour of the student.
A group of more than 400 students received £640,000 in compensation
As far as I am aware Tommy, no UK party has ever dared to suggest that any Brit, north or south of the border, should take any responsibility for their lives. But, although I do not doubt that the current state of Scottish education is all the fault of the bastard English buggering Scotland's sheep and the Labour party locking up all dominies in gulags full of man eating midges, I cannot help but feel that anything free is worth what you pay for it.
All my children were either privately, home or in the cases of son and eldest grand daughter, largely self educated. We could not afford it, but the we could not afford to leave them to the well meaning incompetence of the state education system either.

As far as I am aware Tommy, no UK party has ever dared to suggest that any Brit, north or south of the border, should take any responsibility for their lives. Thats just more tory waffle borkie . Sorry it really is.
1. the idea the older tory generation , who got free university tuition , telling the young they have to take responsibility for their lives by paying excessive uni fees they got for free is fucking laughable rubbish from the generation that got everything fee under the sun , the cozened baby boomer.
yawn . yes yes borkie when faced with facts , through in a diversion. No one is suggesting the good and bad of scottish uni education is the fault of the english. If an english party that cant win elections in scotland tries to introduce english tuition fees on a country that doesnt want them , then that will be .
thank god scotland has a seperate state education system then borkie. I feel for you i really do .
What i want to know borkie , if state education is so bad , why is finalnds state education system , a country where there are no private schools , so much better than england and even the mighty bastion of capitalsm , the USA?
Eight reasons Finland's education system puts the US model to shame
Nordic country's repeated success in national education rankings means there are at least a few lessons the US can learn
One reason for that is Finland has no private schools.
Finnish outperform English children

Do you think maybe , just maybe , we dont actully agree with the ten commandments of life according top tory party high command down in the london hq?

But, although I do not doubt that the current state of Scottish education is all the fault of the bastard English Scotland is 'Europe's best-educated country'
The percentage of Scots holding post-secondary school qualifications continues to be the highest in Europe, figures suggest.
It may be a surprise to find that Scotland’s people are some of the most educated in Europe – 52% of people in Scotland have university, college or vocational qualifications, which is 5% higher than the UK figure, as well as around 20% higher than the EU average.

I applaud the Scottish government which even on a shoestring budget manages to prioritise post secondary education for qualified students. Education matters to the Scots, and they put their money where their mouth is.

My daughter goes off to university at the end of the summer , doing languages , and by the end of her hopefully successful university education can then go on to attaining a well paid job .

Best of luck to her! What languages is she studying? She is studying German and spanish , and has reasonable grasp of gaelic , and knows a bit of mandarin and various other languages.
