I would not remove my face mask in a public place with the inherent risk it poses to my safety... That being none. Masks protect (slightly) other people from you, not the other way round. Don't talk daft. Explain then, for us with little knowledge, how a mask works?

Yes I thought that was the official position apart from the first couple of weeks just before and at the start of the lockdown when my wife and I had to wear a mask because she had just only the year before completed stem cell treatment and was still classed at that point as vulnerable and was told the mask was needed. The wearing of masks after that that was always obligatory in places to protect others to my recall. Do you understand what a depressed immune system is? It can be temporary or permanent.

It catches the droplets when you cough or sneeze and minimises the spread thereof.
It does not filter the air that you breathe, not least because it has gaps around the sides.
So it reduces your output but does not protect you from airborne pathogens.

Here you go, Wonky:
Gas mask on the left - designed to protect the wearer. Medical face mask on the right - designed to protect the patient from the wearer.
Note the difference.

Yes and I sympathise as my wife's was temporary and came back very strong and is still better than mine as I get colds and she gets sniffles. However that does not remove the fact that my distinct impression from the lockdown days was that masks were to protect others, not as a means to protect yourself. Surgeons do not wear masks to protect themselves it is to protect their patient. As an aside when she left hospital with a very frail immune system the only exit, apart from stairs that no way she could manage at the time, was in a crowded lift. She was not advised to wear a mask. Not good planning in that sense.

This mask bullshit was introduced to save others and not those who are wearing them. But look on the bright side at least it improved the looks of some.

I must say that I'm almost impressed by Wonky's ability to be wrong on so many subjects simultaneously.

And does that not apply to everyone? Yes. That's why masks are only effective when everyone wears one because then they reduce the total amount of airborne pathogens.
But they still don't protect the wearer.
