Take advantage of Brexit opportunities! The opportunity to ditch crucial regulations. The opportunity to lower our food standards. The opportunity to compete in the test tube steak market. The opportunity to feed ourselves with glorified spam. Or else -- the man will take his Petri dishes and test tubes and vats of chemicals to USofA! Why can't some people understand and accept that there are things in this world that require, demand and are subject to checks, more checks and strict regulations. Excerpts from uk.yahoo.com/finance/advantage-brexit-ll-move-us-170000194.html Take advantage of Brexit or I’ll move to the US, says boss of lab-grown meat company
The boss of Europe’s biggest lab-grown meat plant has suggested his business will be forced to move abroad unless Britain seizes the opportunities of Brexit.
Richard Dillon, chief executive of Ivy Farm Technologies, said his company is at “a tipping point” and looking to launch its product on the market. However he is concerned by red tape which the UK has inherited from the EU. Although the company is “proudly British”, he says he must decide whether to stay in Oxford or move to the US.
Mr Dillon said: “The UK has inherited the Novel Food Regulations from the EU lock, stock and barrel. And potentially it’s made for a different food technology era where things are not moving quite as fast.
“My wish, being a proud Brit and having Ivy Farm based in Oxford in the UK, is that the UK Government would follow quickly behind the US in getting their safety framework, their regulatory roadmap together.”
Companies around the world are investing in lab-grown meat as an ethical and healthier alternative to traditional animal farmed products.
Ivy Farms is now considering which country to apply to for approval for their product and has yet to submit an application to the UK Food Standards Agency.
“The UK is set up to be a biotech and a food tech leader. But the decision point for us is if we cannot see a path through to regulation, through to sale, through to bringing in sales and profit, then we will be forced to up and move to another market.
Only Singapore has so far approved the product for sale and in a limited capacity. But Mr Dillon warned that sticking to the EU’s food regulations would leave Britain behind in the global race for agricultural innovation.
Last month the US Food and Drug Administration issued a “no questions” letter to the American cultivated meat company, GOOD Meat, meaning the regulator agreed with the company that its cultivated chicken is safe to consume.
In March, the Italian government supported a Bill that would ban laboratory-grown meat, raising concerns about public health and protecting Italy’s food heritage.
In 2022 the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs published a report on Britain’s post-Brexit food strategy which highlighted the need to reform the rules on granting novel food products approval for consumption.

Well what a coincidence, I have just read the article on Yohoo who imported it from The Telegraph, and at the bottom of the Yahoo page is a Poll.
LIVE POLL 89,205 VOTES How would you vote if there were a second EU referendum?
The poll stands at 54% Remain and 40% Leave
I agree totally with the opening post, and am glad that as members of the EU we had, and still have the highest food safety standards in the world, and NO I dont want to replace the food safety standards we have for Ameican ones.
Let the man piss off to America

Polls, we were told Remain would win until Middlesbrough went Leave.
Because of Tory ineptitude we only have a flavour of Brexit the English working class know this. They will stand again if it comes to it and the battles will fire up on social media currently it is just the middle class moaners with a certain class of media savvy loveys that can't resist knocking it as it puts more aggro on their travel plans.

Gobbledegook. Please tell us what is better about Britain since 2016. And why people shouldnt want the same liberty and ease to travel that they had before that date. So far for them it is all give for no take. In other words, their quality of life is reduced. Why is that wrong?

You can add overpopulation too and we are not out of the woods yet due to other things going on locally at times, here 4 police officers injured reported on BBC yet never made the major news though in the Express (after searching found it) www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1753547/bromley-high-street-four-officers-hurt-youths-arrestsThere are number of racist incidents being initially reported around schools yet no follow up and I know why because it is settling scores and is not really racist yet about bullies of different backgrounds thinking they can commit crimes and get away it. I think the powers-that-be are really trying to keep a lid on it.

It had nothing to say about how nations execute national law. For example the way Hungarians assess and treat their "lawbreakers" is in no way like the UK does.

If a country cant control its own population, it isnt an EU issue. In fact the UK shot that infamous foot in making immigration into the UK economy far far more difficult. Most of the illegal immigration comes from Africa and the Middle East. The Brexit liars promised border control.since 2016 the rise in cross channel migration has exploded And climate change will make even worse. Since the leaving of the EU also included leaving the partnership with controlling the UK border under the Dublin Agreement, the UK now spends hundreds of millions trying to remake the agreement it already had. Just lie after lie completely impossible to fulfil has led the rump of right wing white anglo saxon xenophobics to dream their dreams of yesterday. And bring down their beloved country that much faster. They really must understand the loss of 20th century UK and find benefits or face conflict in the 21st century. Detaching oneself from unified western liberal philosophy and alliance is madness.

Detaching oneself from unified western liberal philosophy and alliance is madness. That is absolute nonsense. Christ almighty how brainwashed are you? Member states do indeed have control over policing as they have control over every aspect of their national laws, as long as those laws do not conflict with EU laws. If conflict arises between national laws and EU laws, then national laws must be set aside. EU law is supreme. It's called 'The supremacy of EU law'. There is no grey area, see 1972 EU Communities Act, and, The Treaty of Lisbon 2007. After the EU opened job centres in Africa in 2008 and 2009 the flood of migrants entering the EU became overwhelming. In 2015 in response to the migrant crisis in the EU Merkel famously said "Wir schaffen das", We can manage. In 2016 she said, she wished she could turn the clock back, just as Labour politicians did after Blair opened the floodgates in 2004. I lived in Germany for 11 years it was a great country, I absolutely loved it, my kids were born there we had a great life. Today Germany is a shadow of it's former self and if you think Germans like their country being overrun by immigrants, you're very wrong. It continues to cause all sorts of massive problems but thanks to Merkel and the EU these problems were largely unreported. The EU is an unelected monstrosity that is designed to survive in spite of democracy, not because of democracy.

Which bit of the country are you in? Roughly speaking, no need to give your address or bank details. As ever, feel free to ignore.

The EU doesn't do innovation. In strangles and stifles the living daylights out of it. In a world of high tech change the EU is drastically weak at innovating. It can't move in progression with technology and is getting left behind.
Ironic, that we have Millennial Eco Warriors trying to save our planet because of climate change; and yet simultaneously have an another bunch of remnant Millennials against such innovation. And this is merely because the EU hasn't updated and approved such regulations. If and when it does, no doubt our resident Europhiles will say it's safe and healthy to eat lab produced meat - but until the EU gives them the nod any idea of someone else innovating food regs is a 'no no'.
Britain should change its food regulations to adjust for new safe standards in food technology for the betterment of the planet.
