Let me lead you to the truth  The economy WAS already on the slide even though it had reduced from over 20% inflation to around 10%. The Unions were never running anything, pissed off workers took things into their own hands and. As it happened, they helped to cut their own throats. Because they played right into Thatcher's right-wing Neo Liberal hands. That piece of political garbage Thatcher was quick to use the LIE that the problems were caused by the unions and nationalisations, a ABSOLUTE LIE swallow by the naive such as yourself. As you do not recognise the insidious nature of right-wing propaganda, you can NEVER form a well informed political opinion. So I leave you to wallow once again. Nope. Still posting your fantasies . Unions had huge influence over Labour and Tory governments. Joe Gormley and the miners trashed the Heath government . It took Thatchers to beat the miners, printers and post office unions which was the start of union influence waning. The problems were solely because of the unions . Unions became powerful because governments were weak. Thatcher was not. She changed society . Yes I lived through those bad times , I never want to endure them again |

If there is work to be had and work to be done, then all that the European migrants were guilty of is going to those areas and doing the work.
The East of England has historical low unemployment, and those factories, food producers, food processors and agricultural businesses were going nowhere by attempting to rely on local labour. It was inevitable that due to available work and unavailable local labour that the areas population was going to grow, its an economic fact of life.
People go to where the work is, it happened at the begining of the Industrial Revolution, the only difference this time is that the labour which moved for the work was mainly Polish and Eastern European.
They did the jobs that our own people did not want, and that is a fact

Miners and train drivers were probably the most disliked and caused more misery among the general population...

Around 1976/77 the TUC agreed with the Labour government to limit wage increases to 5% (despite inflation being around 12% at the time) it was the loud mouthed small brained activists that led the pissed off workforce into taking the action that gave Thatcher an easy ride into office. The economy had been in a mess and was still decline in the 1970s, IIRC one of the reasons the UK joined the EEC was because the French economy had overtaken the British economy for the first time in 200 years. (I believe that comment came from the Daily Mail). So I am referring to Thatcher's lies and the so called 'winter of discontent'. NOT the unions when they were actually active. |
