The British Legion have been forced to cancel Poppy Day which is held on the 3rd of November to raise donations to those brave men and women who have served their country by putting themselves in harm's way, some of them die in action, some are horribly injured, some in later life fall on hard times PTSD and other issues. Why has it been cancelled? because of the Rail Strike serving members of the services who traditionally to take to the streets with collecting tins may not get to where they usually collect, All down to the Far-Left Union Leaders who have organised more strike days, causing more inconvenience to the traveling Public, many of whom cannot get to work, Hospital appointments, see loved one who may be gravely ill in Hospital, more damage to our economy, etc etc all down to the Comrades again. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11340405PS just noted an omission by me the collections are organised London at Transport Hubs

Quite so. Here in NZ there is no designated "Poppy Day" and we choose a day convenient to collectors. We also place trays of poppies with businesses in the week running up to (here it is ANZAC Day) for their customers to purchase as they shop. Can't see any cause for difficulty. Have they also tried talking to the unions involved to ascertain a non-strike day? Or is this just another dig at the Unions?

With respect what has that got to do with what happen here, waste of time trying to negotiate with the Transport Unions IMO they only like the sound of their own voice

Never heard of a Poppy Day to be honest. In my part of the world we just have gangs of savage old ladies who probably spent WWI and WWII carrying on with the Yanks. They started rattling the tins a week ago and won't stop until the Last Post on Remembrance Sunday.

I would like to cancel my subscription and give the money to any of our brave servicemen to spend on women and drink. Unfortunately I can't because I don't buy the Daily Mail. I just read it in the Supermarket and then put it back on the shelf.

My point is that those responsible for organising collections should not be fixated on a particular, and as far as I can see, quite arbitrary, date. As for talking to the Unions, you might be surprised as to how receptive they are. They are strong supporters of our national RSA here in NZ and the RSL in Australia (equivalents of the British Legion). They do, after all, represent the working stiff which is by far the largest demographic among those who made the supreme sacrifice. I've also noted, during my own Poppy Day activities, that it is the less well-off who make the greatest contributions, whether by donations or giving their time to collect. You never know, Mick Lynch might even offer to have his members sell poppies on the picket lines.

Given that employers will attempt to 'underpay' and reduce working conditions to increase profits, could anyone on here suggest what workers can do, once talks have broken down, to improve their lot?

How about disappear up their own arse along with the commies who stir them up. Most of the tossers who attend these Rebellions have never done a hard days work in their lives.

So the railway workers on the picket lines are not railway workers. Do you not believe in a worker's right to strike? Do you think workers should accept a reduction in their pay?
