My observation on this is simple: The term "wog" or "gollywog" is an offensive term for black people Simple as that The word golly is used all most every day in some form or another, we even have songs with the word golly in ...
And betcha by golly, wow You're the one that I've been waiting for forever And ever will my love for you keep growin' strong Keep growin' strong
by the Stylistics, who just happen to be black ... LOL
Let's ban that racist song.
It would be preferable if posters debated using an acceptable level of intelligence The terms "wog", "gollywog" appertaining to a comical black doll have a totally different meaning to "golly gosh" or golly as used in some songs, which actually means "by God" or "I swear by God". As stated previously, I find it difficult to get too upset over a doll, but its clearly a case of someone who is attention seeking, I can cause offence because I just can.

Many years ago I visited starkville City in the USA and on entering the city limits there awas a huge billboard with the words hey black person don't let the sun set on your arse. So in otherworld those who were entering with the intent of causing havoc would be dealt with after dark. And guess what the district attorney and the sherif of the county were both black as the ace of spades.

No one can cause offence on their own. No one can successfully seek attention without others wanting to give them attention .

You don't have to go to that pub so how exactly does it effect you? This speaks volumes of your sort who support this total bollox. I cannot get too upset over a doll, but my point is a very relivant point ... that the words "Wog" and "Gollywog" are offensive names for black people. Your answer that "I dont have to go to that pub" is absurd, the question has got to be .... WHY does anyone in a public place feel the need to display something which some in our society find highly offensive. ? I do not agree with burning BIbles or the Quoran, or any holy book which some people would be offended at, but its not illegal to burn the Bible or a Quoran, its also not illegal to burn Poppies, but WHY do something to offend sections of society. "because I can" ...... "because its fun" ........ "because I am an attention seeker" ... "because I think its ok to offend others in society" WHY does anyone in a public place feel the need to display something which some in our society find highly offensive. ? This is the crux of the issue. There are many things in society that I find offensive, and I am by no means alone. We are expected to be tolerant. I would expect other people also to be tolerant of things that may cause offense. Why is tolerance expected, and in fact demanded, only of the majority within the country whilst those not in the majority can be intolerant as they like. I walk in public places and I see many things and signs that I find offensive yet my view is pooh poohed as inconsequential. Am I not part of the 'some'?

"The origin of the term is unclear. It was first noted by lexicographer F.C. Bowen in 1929, in his Sea Slang: a dictionary of the old-timers’ expressions and epithets, where he defines wogs as "lower class Babu shipping clerks on the Indian coast." Many dictionaries say "wog" probably derives from the golliwog, a blackface minstrel doll character from a children's book, The Adventures of Two Dutch Dolls and a Golliwogg by Florence Kate Upton, published in 1895; or from pollywog, a dialect term for tadpole that is used in maritime circles to indicate someone who has not crossed the equator. Suggestions that the word is an acronym for "wily Oriental gentleman", "western orientated gentleman" "working on government service", or similar, are examples of false etymology.

True, but they are overt hypocrites that are currently dependent on race-baiting, and literally support CRT ideas that all western civilisation is racist. It's why their party forced mass-immigration and multiculturalism to divide and control, and they have absolutely no problem with offending everyone else. The fact that the police are now this corrupt and pushing leftist politics (persecution) pleases them. If they get their way they will have everyone who disagrees with them locked up. Taking a load of Golly toys into custody may seem funny in a surreal sense, but the fact that it happened is actually quite serious.

From another dictionary: The claim that it is an acronym for Westernised Oriental gentleman is demonstrably false, as this etymology does not seem to occur before the 1960's although the term had been in use for over a hundred years at that point.
....and I can remember being taught around 1950 that WOG means what I sad it means.

Is offending someone a crime?
I wouldn't use terms like wog or other unpleasant words, but surely I should be able to if I wanted to. If black people choose to refer to white people as honkeys or whities then the outraged left defend this as their right, but if the position is reversed then they get hysterical about it.
I think that the best resolution is to use whatever words come to mind, I think that it would be quite difficult to actually demonstrate that you hate anyone purely by thoughts in a court of law. However, placing car tyres soaked in petrol around a person neck and setting fire to it could be thought of as a hate crime, displaying a child's toy might be more difficult.

The year before the chinese pox hit, CADW imposed an entry charge to a derelict waste ground formerly an industrial site of extreme importance where the process to make steel from iron was first perfected in the UK. And as a result almost everyone stopped going to visit it.
Prior to this utter stupidity the site played host to several events two of which caught my attention. The first being a steampunk gathering to which naturally the victorian surroundings gave a perfect backdrop.
The other was a military historical event, but not perhaps what some expected. As the site includes a row of workers cottages restored to various ages through the life of the ironworks, it attracted historical groups keen to show life in those times, and one such had a display of medical, surgical and dental facilities of the time, both military and civilian.
The last such event featured a group who had researched ‘The British Resistance’ the shadowy organisation my paternal grandfather was involved with, and another who had researched tbe GERMAN equivalent of the ‘Home Guard’.
I remember seeing two coppers at the front gate in full uniform eho made every visitor aware of a notice in what had to be at least twenty point print.
It said that a number of groups attending this event were there to represent GERMAN military and civilian groups and that if this was likely to offend you, the organisers would very much prefer it if you found something else to do for this bank holiday.
And like i said, they had two very real modern day coppers pounting this out.
I mentioned how strange this seemed.
They said ‘the group had been somewhere else a month earlier and “some easily offended individuals” started a punch up. We’re here to offer advice on home licks and property security’ one said ‘but it seems to us we might do more good for an hour standing here …
I was quite surprised at the degree of common sense being shown. I bet if word got back, their promotion chances would be shot to hell

The fact is the public order acts confer upon you the right not to feel you are harrassed, abused, assaulted and about a dozen similar. What they do NOT do is give you a right to be offended. Indeed, our constitution such as it is allows me to be as offensive as i like provided there is no element of incitement to violence or acts of open aggression, threatening behaviour, lewdness or actions that ‘a reasonable person’ might interpret as grounds to xause fear, alarm or distress. Sticking a couple of cabbage patch dolls in lewd poses in suggestive clothing is quite acceptable. Doing it openly in the street in live action is only allowed if done in support of Gay Pride

Why are gollywogs considered to be racist? Because they are black.
Some people "see red", woke loonies "see black". It often triggers a fit.
