Why are gollywogs considered to be racist? Probably got something to do with racists using them in a racist way to insult Black people. I don't think they were ever intended to be used in a racist way.

Well if you dont see any racism why are you worried about a few dolls? I am not, so again you make up a falsehood. I made the point that some people might equate the sign the racism that has been used in the past.
And certainly do not "see racism everywhere". Well if they dont enter the pub they wont see anything - problem solved. If you don't see that these dolls are racist what is the problem with leaving the damn things alone?

Its racist people assuming there are racist people everywhere and that they will use a doll to insult black people who don't go in the pub

My observation on this is simple: The term "wog" or "gollywog" is an offensive term for black people
Simple as that

If you don't see that these dolls are racist what is the problem with leaving the damn things alone? Stating the obvious ignores the point about the sign that you highlighted in my post. I have not said they shouldn't be left alone. I repeat that some people might equate them with the racist comments made in the past. Possibly the worst that can be said about making a display with them, especially without any comment, while knowing there is some disquiet about them, is that it is in bad taste. IMO, as things stand it does beg the question as to whether or not racism plays a part in this OTT display.

I cannot get too upset over a doll, but my point is a very relivant point ... that the words "Wog" and "Gollywog" are offensive names for black people. Your answer that "I dont have to go to that pub" is absurd, the question has got to be .... WHY does anyone in a public place feel the need to display something which some in our society find highly offensive. ? I do not agree with burning BIbles or the Quoran, or any holy book which some people would be offended at, but its not illegal to burn the Bible or a Quoran, its also not illegal to burn Poppies, but WHY do something to offend sections of society. "because I can" ...... "because its fun" ........ "because I am an attention seeker" ... "because I think its ok to offend others in society"

Would golliwogs be acceptable if they were called a name that didn’t include ‘ wogs’ . Just Gollies maybe ?

IMO the doll in itself is not racist, it is the way in which some people have used it and or used its name, that has in the past been racist.

Maybe the followers of Saussure who think that linguistic theory can define a biological male as a female can help to define golliwog as pansexual white person.
