Perhaps to many people on holiday in the summer months , personally I think there is case for making it compulsory to vote in GE so those in the Commons or wanting to get there get a more accurate picture of what people think, but it will never happen Once elected they don't give two shites what people think. I'd go to jail rather than be made to vote. I think I'd put you in jail anyway

Should go back to being May / June rather than Autumnal. Much easier to have a drink after in nice beer garden weather. Perhaps to many people on holiday in the summer months , personally I think there is case for making it compulsory to vote in GE so those in the Commons or wanting to get there get a more accurate picture of what people think, but it will never happen Compulsory voting is irrelevant in a first past the post system, the number of non-voters wouldn't make a difference. It is only really an issue for people who didn't like the result. It's akin to PR, Labour want it till they look like they are going to win a landslide lol. My MP is the Speaker, so nobody else stands... what would be the point of making me vote? Likewise, what would be the point in making somebody vote in safe seats... a vote for anybody but the incumbent would be simply meaningless.

What party would hold a GE during high inflation, COVID recovery and when a war in Europe is raging?
A particular problem for the Tories is the imploding of the SNP, with the likelihood that they will loose seats to Labour. However, there is the risk that the SNP's problems get worse during the next 12 months...
The only way there will be an early election is if something really scandalous happens within Labour.

But if everyone in this country who is utterly fed up with the Lab/Con duopoly actually went out and voted for an alternative - whatever that alternative might be - we'd create a political earthquake that would shake their cosy duopoly to the core. Yeah, but we won't. No one wants a political earthquake, just a chance to change the butcher or baker
I will probably hold my nose and vote Reform.

I agree they should keep Starmer guessing. After the way that bastard Clegg zombified parliament the left who tried to fuck us sll over deserve no quarter but sadly i suspect Fishi Rishy would have to delay it to the year 3000 after the way he’s fucked over everyone who isnt able to count on a £230 million inheritance tax evasion plan as a means to pay the bills

The problem for me is that it makes no difference who I vote for, as Labour gets about 70% of the vote in Hackney North and Stoke Newington.
On delaying the election: it makes sense for the Tories to delay the election if their support in opinion polls is rising. Hopefully, Sunak will be able to quell opposition in his party and replace some of his less appealing team and make the Conservatives more acceptable.
If there are still too many incompetents and unlikeable in government, a couple of spells in opposition may give the Tories the impetus to rebuild...

As I stated it will never happen, it is just my opinion I have lived in safe seat Corbyn's but I still voted to voice my opinion , hasten to add not for that odious man

Seriously, getting old ain't that much fun we just have to keep smiling, or not, as the mood takes us. Take care, relax and enjoy the sunshine when it comes, and don't forget to tell your better half that you love her
