Not sure it's nannying. Businesses wanting to make more profit are prone to adding or taking away 'bits and pieces' from all sorts of things without telling the public what they are doing. This is one way, I imagine, to keep them on the narrow path of truth. Remember the advert for Cadbury chocolate, a pint and half of milk in every bar, they had to change it to glass but did not have to say what sized glass.Who bloody cares? Why should ADULTS be treated like children for your own and like minded narrative? We all should care about what businesses are doing to increase their profits on the backs of the less informed.

How would it increase profits by having a huge label proverbially saying "drink this and you'll get fat"?

I find such info helpful because it helps me avoid those low-fat, low-salt and low-sugar products I don't like...

And they put them on their products. Who wants to go to a pub and see that bullshit emblazened across the pumps? Pubs are already struggling and the left wokes who cannot look up FACTS and decide om their own endorse this total madness. FFS whats next supermarkets with wall to wall warnings. But even then the usual miserable arseholes and killjoys in our society would not be happy.

Don't understand the "proverbially" bit, but booze has alcohol content info on the pump or label, and that's not stridently proclaiming anything — except for those whose major selling point is zero or low alcohol content (eg, Guinness 0.0)...

The simple thing is, if you want to drink and not get fat, you need an active life.
What's our society like these days? More and more online shit, online dating, online shopping, online conferencing.
Wanna handle obesity? Encourage people to go out more and exercise more.
Pubs and nightclubs get people doing that.

Exactly mate these fat bastards are too lazy to get off their fat arses and would rather terrorise our streets and shops on their mobility scooters than do anything for themselves.

You really are silly, if they are counting calories it is because they don't want to put weight on, if they are, as you put it 'fat', they don't care. When I was going out every weekend, any calories in the beer were worked off by dancing with women, and shagging. Oh wow, you're so macho, Vinny. Can I be a member of your fan club?

Shadow minister Liz Kendall says alcohol needs to have nutritional information displayed on bars display to help drinkers look after their health. A Labour frontbencher was criticised today after suggesting beer pumps should display the number of calories in a pint. Shadow social care minister Liz Kendall said the nutritional value of alcoholic drinks was a 'big issue'. Speaking to the BBC she said that giving the information to drinkers would allow them to make decisions about what and how much they drink for themselves and avoid more drastic measures from politicians. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11923773/Shadow-minister-Liz-Kendall-criticised-backing-calorie-counts-pub-beer-taps.htmlNote: shadow minister for the nanny state said this was to avoid more drastic measures from politicians... ...who have the luxury of thirty (30) subsidised bars in the palace of westminster. Well IF we have to have them on menus why not? The sad truth is many people really are so thick they don't realise how many calories they are taking in, whether they can cope with the multi digit numbers on menus and maybe pumps might be a fair question. And while there's an argument we should just let them overeat/drink themselves to death they cost us a fortune in health treatment on their journey. We do not ' have to' have calories on menus. This is a classic case of nanny state overreach. How many fat people do you think go into McDonalds read the menu and after seeing the amount of calories in a treble Mc huge burger thinks, I'll have a salad instead? As Ricky Gervais said, fat people know what makes them fat.

I think a lot comes down to the fact that the proposition is insulting and sums up the priorities in Labour. It's no wonder the entire Labour movement today revolves around a negative campaign when this is all they're offering.

I just see it for what it is - a pointless gap filler.
