Shadow minister Liz Kendall says alcohol needs to have nutritional information displayed on bars display to help drinkers look after their health. A Labour frontbencher was criticised today after suggesting beer pumps should display the number of calories in a pint. Shadow social care minister Liz Kendall said the nutritional value of alcoholic drinks was a 'big issue'. Speaking to the BBC she said that giving the information to drinkers would allow them to make decisions about what and how much they drink for themselves and avoid more drastic measures from politicians. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11923773/Shadow-minister-Liz-Kendall-criticised-backing-calorie-counts-pub-beer-taps.htmlNote: shadow minister for the nanny state said this was to avoid more drastic measures from politicians... ...who have the luxury of thirty (30) subsidised bars in the palace of westminster.

There is a good report on GB News I watched today which is an interview with Matthew Goodwin. www.youtube.com/watch?v=otvGZzo16nMHe has written a book about these people in which he describes his research. He says they are mainly from Russell Group universities and are often represented in the Labour Party, but some Tories too. I mention it because having been to one of these universities myself, my experiences are very close to what he describes. I could not stand the attitude then and neither now. They drive you friggin' mad. It was a combination of very stupid, high sense of privilege and dogmatic arrogance. If you wanted to chat up any of their women you had to feign it as a woke art student. One night I pulled it off, another time I blew it by my own admission.

This can have a negative impact on health because people will believe that if they drink a low calorie beer (which still gives you a beer belly), they can drink more of the beer because it has low calories but resulting in more chance of alcoholism.

I was listening to GB News this morning, while on veg prep duty, but I didn't hear that. In my defence I was distracted a few times by Mrs R who was in the garden, anyway. Mathew Goodwin, what a star. His book, Values Voice and Virtue, is defo on my list. He is so right, the vast majority didn't want things like mass immigration or globalisation but they had no choice. Synopsis: Britain is in the midst of an historic transformation. Over the past decade, a country once known around the globe for its stable politics has seemingly descended into chaos. Through a series of upheavals, the country's liberal establishment has been outflanked and a new alliance of voters has emerged, weakening the traditional divide between left and right. In trying to make sense of this, many commentators have turned to short-term explanations: dark money, the recession, the personalities of party leaders. But, as acclaimed political scientist Matthew Goodwin reveals in this strikingly original study, the remarkable turbulence of recent years has been a long time in the making-and it is set to continue for many years to come. Embarking on a profound and ranging analysis of postwar British politics, Goodwin shows how the liberalising projects of the Thatcher and Blair years gave rise to new, cultural divides - over 'values,' 'voice,' and 'virtue' - which have now begun to define political debate and determine elections. Goodwin reveals why these uniquely powerful cultural divides are allowing the right to flourish as the left flounders, and argues that this imbalance has shifted British politics into an entirely new phase. In the absence of a unifying cultural narrative, we have decisively left behind the era of postwar consensus, and entered a new age of political volatility.A snip at £20 from Waterstones.

Why are you so upset about this, if people want to know how many calories there are in the alcohol they are drinking, let them, why are you attempting to deny them. If you don't want to know don't read it.

People have been drinking beer for hundreds of years and have never asked the nanny state to school them over the amount of calories they may be drinking. If you have any evidence to the contrary, lets see it...

Keep up with the times, this is the information generations, people want to know things. If you don't don't read it.

Just another tentacle of control. These people love sticking their noses into everything - they haven't got a role if they are not doing this

People want to meke their own choice. Not what some lefty woke wanker wants to inflict upon them. What choice has a consumer lost? The choice to think. I was trying to buy a new monitor and wanted to know how many Watts it consumed. The woke wankers would only give me a letter as a code for energy efficiency. Over in China they tend to list the proper specificatio0ns in SI units, not woke units of conformity.
