but it does rather drive a pony and trap through the claims made to now that the vans are (except in north wales where they hide them in horse boxes) deliberately highly visible as a visible deterrent. You can’t claim that is anything other than bullshit when they psint the fucking things battleship grey…. Why do we need a deterrent, don't we all know the speed limits, they on signs all the way along the road, mind if you are using a phone you might miss them. actually, they are not. One of the most entertaining utter failures of gwent plod to secure a speeding fine was on the a48 outside newport. The council chose to ignore the lawyers telling them they had to display and maintsin a clear view at all times of repeater signs. There was in fact no indication the road was anything other than the bog standard 60 unrestricted, and i was there to hear the magistrate call the council all sorts for failing to adhere to the law in this regard.

I used to love going on to the M5 at the bottom of the A380 and seeing the camera that was where the A38 joined the M5 wearing it's Soweto necklace with pride......LOL

When I used to drive on London North circular , drivers knew where the cameras were and it was quite noticeable where the traffic would speed up and slow down between speed cameras.

I have a lttle dashcam on my screen mate that bleeps and flashes red when in the vicinity of a camera. And if a new camera is installed I along with others only have to report it to Garmin and the withinn a few days there is a firmware update to include the new reported cameras......But of course plod parks their vans anywear and cannot be reported as the location is only used at rush hour times.

I have not see a Police Camera Van in North London for a long time, the numbers of Traffic Cops have been reduced over the years during cut backs, as far as I am aware they only had about four of them North of the River , not that much need for them with the amount of cameras in London or one sort or another.

You are allowed 10% plus 2, unofficially but if you are a persistent offender that 'curtesy' is withdraw. There is no need to 'speed' nowadays all modern cars tell you the limit on the road you are driving on and there are plenty of speed signs. Some people will exceed the speed limit no matter what the police do and they are a menace to society. Not now you are not...
EDIT:.....Can you get fined for speeding 10% above the limit?
Although police are recommended to give drivers leeway, it isn’t guaranteed that you’ll get away with speeding 10 percent above the limit.
There is no specific amount of mph that you can go over by as drivers are meant to firmly stick to the restrictions - meaning you can be fined for going even just 1mph over.
I agree not often done the reason being speedometers in vehicles are often not always accurate they may be slightly out couple of miles over or under, the digital ones are far more accurate these days

Are you really that naïve to think the faster you go the less serious an accident will be? are YOU teally that naive to accept the bullshit that it is for safety ? The most revenue-raising camera in the whole of wales is on the underpass under the old green roundabout in Newport. This is a dual carriageway with a 50 limit dropping to 30, soon to be 20, for no reason other than a set of traffic lights 400 yards away in plain view. The road has no bends or dips and has a no pedestrians sign on it. Apart from suicides jumping off a pedestrian over-bridge into the path of a lorry there has never been an incident on the road in the 40 years (as of next week) i have lived in this shithole town I disagree the Speed Cameras as we call them the correct name for them is Gatso Cameras, named after the man who invented them Maurice "Maus" Gatsonides (February 14, 1911 in Gombong, Kebumen Regency – November 29, 1998 in Heemstede) was a Dutch rally driver and inventor. Gatsonides was born in Central Java in the former Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). He founded the company "Gatsometer BV" in the Netherlands in 1958. The underpass you refer to and dual carriage way has different speed limits for a good reason safety , same as the North Circular near to me is to gradually slow the traffic down , even though you can see the roundabout a hazard you refer to from a long way off, 50mph to 30mph then to 20mpg, drivers will be changing lanes on their approach to the roundabout, the Traffic Lights are there for safety as well, to allow cars to get on the roundabout gradually. Some traffic lights here on the North Circular Road have cameras on them to stop deter drivers and riders racing though the junction to beat the red lights, another safety reason very dangerous thing to do, you get a ticket for that if you do All the rules and regulation that come under the Road Traffic Act have been brought in for a good reason, to try and keep people safe. lots of 20mph zones being introduced in London for safety reasons pedestrians especially. nearest one to me is outside a large school, youngsters all over the place at home time crossing the road

From my experience, 20mph is a reasonable speed for roads in central London and around most of the inner London boroughs. The only sneaky thing about speed limits is the way they fluctuate, as if trying to catch out the motorist and boost county hall coffers.
Roads drift in and out of 20 and 30mph, 30 and 40mph, and 40 and 50mph zones without adequate and clear signage. It's the same with bus lanes — some are 24hr, others are 7am to 7pm, or am or pm only. The problem is that they're too often not clearly marked, and the signs are hidden...

The Sat Nav on my car, which is updated annually, shows the speed limit, but because of continual adjustments by councils and highways authorities, it cannot keep up with the current situation. However, it is a help in avoiding speeding tickets. It must be, as I have never had one - yet!
As a matter of interest, my speedometer shows 75mph when my actual measured speed is 70mph. This is the case with most speedos, they show a speed greater than the actual speed of the car.

Logic says that the Speedo indicates faster speeds as the tyres wear.
I've been told that at police discretion, a speeding ticket will be issued if the vehicle is travelling faster than 10% plus 2mph over the limit. I haven't knowingly tested this...

By their own words they are lying cunts end of.

That’s all very well but why are so many speed cameras situated on gradients? There are inconsistencies too on the leeway given by different forces,at one time there was brunstrom chief constable in N wales “do 31 in a 30 and we’ll have you” You are allowed 10% plus 2, unofficially but if you are a persistent offender that 'curtesy' is withdraw. and there are plenty of speed signs. Some people will exceed the speed limit no matter what the police do and they are a menace to society. You seem intent on ignoring the inconsistencies and try to fob off unofficial this or that,if there is leeway given it should be consistent across the country. You might dismiss it but what annoys are that in some cases safety comes a far off second whilst revenue driven is often the case,it’s the same with bus lanes, bus gates, hidden signs you might dismiss it but it is a factor. No that’s false because not everybody has a car built in the last two or three years.

It still make no difference if its the law. But thats kind of the point. The law on whete they can site these fucking cash generators is specific, thete has to have been a record of fatal, or severe injury crashes where dorrd is a significant contributing factor. Or are you totally ignorant of the rulebook that twat Brunstrom published to justify his cash raising. As a direct result of that document hundreds if cameras were removed. But not this one despite the fact the rules say clearly what qualifies forbit to be thete and bone match. The speed vans' cameras only catch people who are speeding, they do not make it up. If you are speeding you are breaking the law, how you are caught is immaterial, simple.
