The only people to 'moan' about the tactics used by the police to catch people breaking the laws are those that break the laws. but it does rather drive a pony and trap through the claims made to now that the vans are (except in north wales where they hide them in horse boxes) deliberately highly visible as a visible deterrent. You can’t claim that is anything other than bullshit when they psint the fucking things battleship grey…. Why do we need a deterrent, don't we all know the speed limits, they on signs all the way along the road, mind if you are using a phone you might miss them.

That’s all very well but why are so many speed cameras situated on gradients? There are inconsistencies too on the leeway given by different forces,at one time there was brunstrom chief constable in N wales “do 31 in a 30 and we’ll have you”

Yes Red it is sneaky using unmarked Vans, Police Forces are allocated a budget to enforce the speed limits mainly by static cameras, it costs quite a lot of money to monitor them and send out speeding tickets, if there is any revenue it goes to the Government not the Police.
The country in Europe that has better safer roads is Sweden, second is the UK from 1951 up until 2006 over 309,144 died in motoring accidents on our roads, 17.6 million were injured , speed cameras love them or loath them have been in place since 1991, last figure that I can find for fatal crashes I could find on line quickly was for 2017 was 25,300 fatalities.
Here in London where we have lots of speed cameras if you set off a Camera you will get a ticket if exceed the limit by 10% plus one mile an hour, we also have 20mph limits and more are being introduced by local Councils so you have to watch watch you speed.
A few times during the year wife and I will go for longer journeys for holidays and visit family up North , cameras all over the place that is why I love cruise control soon as I join the motorway set it at 70mph and the car takes over , same for the variable sped limits of 50mph or even 40mph I set the cruise control. 70 mph is fast enough for me and it saves fuel

Are you really that naïve to think the faster you go the less serious an accident will be? Pillock.

Are you really that naïve to think the faster you go the less serious an accident will be? are YOU teally that naive to accept the bullshit that it is for safety ? The most revenue-raising camera in the whole of wales is on the underpass under the old green roundabout in Newport. This is a dual carriageway with a 50 limit dropping to 30, soon to be 20, for no reason other than a set of traffic lights 400 yards away in plain view. The road has no bends or dips and has a no pedestrians sign on it. Apart from suicides jumping off a pedestrian over-bridge into the path of a lorry there has never been an incident on the road in the 40 years (as of next week) i have lived in this shithole town

I forgot to mention wife has downloaded an App from her phone and loaded it onto the cars system , it beeps if you go over the speed limit by a couple of MPH and tells you if you are approaching static speed cameras, sadly not grey Speed Camera Vans Just found the APP its a Sat Nav App and warns you when you exceed the speed limit. www.techspot.com/news/64267-waze-now …

There is no need to 'speed' nowadays all modern cars tell you the limit on the road you are driving on and there are plenty of speed signs. Some people will exceed the speed limit no matter what the police do and they are a menace to society.

What the M5 is going to be 20mph and what about the dual carriageways, as I said don't talk daft. Cutting speeds on minor or residential roads saves live.

But thats kind of the point. The law on whete they can site these fucking cash generators is specific, thete has to have been a record of fatal, or severe injury crashes where dorrd is a significant contributing factor. Or are you totally ignorant of the rulebook that twat Brunstrom published to justify his cash raising. As a direct result of that document hundreds if cameras were removed. But not this one despite the fact the rules say clearly what qualifies forbit to be thete and bone match.

EDIT:.....Can you get fined for speeding 10% above the limit?
Although police are recommended to give drivers leeway, it isn’t guaranteed that you’ll get away with speeding 10 percent above the limit.
There is no specific amount of mph that you can go over by as drivers are meant to firmly stick to the restrictions - meaning you can be fined for going even just 1mph over.

What it ACTUALLY does is remove the fear of getting killed if you don’t look out for traffic. And if you want a proper opinion on road injuries, here’s one from the professional body of those who have to -patch up the damage, the british medical journal www.bmj.com/company/newsroom/20-mph-speed-limits-have-seemingly-little-impact-on-crashes-casualties-driver-speed/You’re listening to the bullshit, instead of the science.

One of the reasons Gwent Police have the lowest public cooperation on record is their habit of busting people for 73 on the M4 and 31 in Cwmbran back in the 90’s. My wife has the fucking ticket, and waves it at any uniformed twat who wants her help. Which given she niw eorks at the Ministry of Justice ….
