Repeatedly claiming that ‘ significant amount ‘ equals ‘ all ‘ in my case is just your attempt to dishonestly obfuscate and lie your way out of a corner. In my opinion any threat to the Northern Ireland peace process is due to the intransigence of the EU, it would be perfectly possible to arrange matters to remove the current restrictions. The EU have put the integrity of their single market before the Good Friday agreement, if this does turn out to bite then the responsibility lies with the EU. I would have preferred Ricky to walk away and let the EU do whatever it chose to do rather than divide the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland in this way. But it was not the EU or the Republic of Ireland which moved the goal posts was it, it was the UK government which decided to create a problem. We all know there s an easy way around the issue - by having the same regulations as the Republic of Ireland and the other 460 Million people who live in the European Economic Area. Why should the EU (population 450 million) change its rules to suit the UK (population 68 million), if we became part of the wider EEA same as Norway, same as Iceland, the problem would disappear. No one has to change any rules, if the EU wish to protect their market that is up to them, if that does not gel with the GFA then they have to consider the outcome. The UK made the mistake of taking on board the problem as opposed to letting the EU steam about it but then that was May who was keen to get us back in eventually, or keep us in but providing the fiction we were out. The border in Ireland is an EU/Ireland problem that I am sure teh British would be willing to cooperate on. If only that had happened. Instead it is now used as a tool to beat the UK with. |
