HMS Prince of Wales: Repair bill for UK’s warship of woe hits £20m
The cost of repairing Britain’s largest warship has spiralled to £20 million and it will be stuck in a dry dock for three months longer than planned. HMS Prince of Wales has spent the majority of its service undergoing repair after breakdowns and flooding, in what naval experts say is a national embarrassment. The £3.2 billion aircraft carrier had to abandon a “landmark” trip to the US last August when damage was discovered on its propeller shaft. It has been stranded in Fife since October. Royal Navy sources had said the vessel would be ready by the end of last month and it was due in Portsmouth for upgrades to its aviation systems. However, a defence source has revealed that the departure date has been put back to about May 23, as repairs continue and a period of suitable tides passed.
The size of the 65,000-tonne ship limits when it can sail, as very high water is needed to get over the sill, or doorstop, of the dry dock, followed by a very low tide to pass under a bridge. As a result, plans have been made to upgrade Prince of Wales while it remains out of the water, alongside the propeller shaft repairs. The defence source said extending a carrier’s stay in the dry dock was extremely costly and confirmed that the bill for the repair work now stood at £20 milllion, dwarfing previous repairs, which were put at £3 million. The carrier was built largely by the now disbanded Aircraft Carrier Alliance, a partnership of the defence companies BAE Systems, Babcock International and Thales Group with the Ministry of Defence. Officials have launched an investigation into who will bear the “cost of repairs and responsibility for payment”, but it is feared that the taxpayer will foot the bill. Admiral Lord West of Spithead, a former first sea lord and chief of the naval staff, told The Times that the saga was “very irksome” and called for whoever was responsible for the shaft misalignment “cock-up” to be “strung up”.

Balls.
Unless it is a couple of bluejackets in a row boat on the Clyde, every new warship is a national disgrace. That is because 3 billion pound warships aren't built very often and as such all their systems are new, which means they are they are just waiting to breakdown.

When did any government build of anything come in on time and on budget. Something to ponder the next time PFIs which did come in on time and on cost in the vast majority of cases, come under fire.

When did any government build of anything come in on time and on budget. Something to ponder the next time PFIs which did come in on time and on cost in the vast majority of cases, come under fire. Labour will never live the pfi deals down. Trying to spin your way out of that deplorable piece of shit by waffling on about this is laughable.
The cost of this warship , and repairs , however bad , is a fraction of the legacy of PFI debt that the last labour government left us , and which we are still paying off today.

The International Financial Meltdown that destroyed all the previous economic planning is what turned PFIs into an economic disaster, but one needs to be more honest than biased in order to acknowledge that fact. True comment is not waffle. I was going to make a comment about 'Made in Scotland' but chose to mention PFIs instead, I should have commented on both.

Still you waffle on about it not being a s bad as people think , despite the evidence thrown at you , or you blame the financial crash , where PFI debt was being accumulated long before that happened.
A wiser head would have kept schtum , but not the new labour daftys.

Yes it will.
No one gives a toss about PFI or the cost of warships. It is Cheop's law. We expect these things to over run their budgets and be delivered late.
So cut out the smoke screen Tommy. The SNP is buggered and your mate Sammy the Seal does not appear to be picking up extra votes for Alba. This is not the time for your usual trick of blaming everything on the bastard English. If you want independence and the chance to betray Scotland to the EU, get off your arse and start getting out the vote.
Algérie Française !

Thats typical of you borkie , turn a blind eye to all the bad news , and then try and spin keir starmer as the saviour of the tories until he starts taxing the second home for labours pride and joy the nhs , and starts the ball rolling to take you back into the EU.
Must get lonely down the allotment at times sharing the nuggets of tory wisdom and crystal ball gazing with the radishes.
We are now in march 2023 , and still no return of empire that the chelsea pensioners promised us. Another step closer according to the polls to a labour party victory under the leadership of europhile keir starmer , who borkie assures us wont take england back into the eu to do its penitence for daring to leave .
I` ll be here to remind you when he does ......have no fear on that score.

I know its hard borkie keep ing up with events north of the watford gap , but surely even you can see things are moving drastically in scottish politics?
I suppose it keeps your mind off the many problems at home , and the disaster that is the current tory party under rishi the remainer.
