...I said we massively over-reacted and that over-reaction caused a great deal of damage. I'm not sure that we did over-react. The government were dealing with an unknown threat. And sure, in hindsight we probably didn't need lockdown. And we probably didn't need such an extensive vaccination program. But we didn't know that at the time. What if the government had gone the other way, said: “Don't worry about it” and then 10 million had died? Would anyone want to make that call up front? No, me neither. So the government erred on the side of caution and the worst case scenario. And had they not, we might be having a very different conversation today. I think we probably did overreact. The %age of people for whom Covid proved fatal was known before lockdown and Boris himself told us to prepare for many loved ones to die. At the time it was probably expected to be about half a million. Herd immunity was pushed initially and to flatten the sombrero was not to stop Covid it was so that the NHS could cope with the numbers expected. Now the NHS cannot cope with the numbers from all other ailments expected and goodness knows how many excess deaths have occurred due to all the consequences of the lockdowns not to mention the long term problems associated with over spending and dare I say it the problems with the 'vaccines'. We should have shut the borders in total as it was OK to put British Citizens under house arrest but God forbid that we did not meet our international 'obligations'. We could easily have cried emergency, as we did do, but let too much seep through the cracks becasue it was otherwise too difficult. If lockdown was needed it should have been across the board and international travel knocked entirely on the head.

I don't think that is true. I rather suspect that its more a case of failing to see what the tank(s) are. But that seems to be off the map. The crisis would have to be gargantuan before those sacred cows entered the equation - and then it would likely only be after some kind of physical confrontation (or near). People will be literally starving on the streets and the BBC will still be hiring diversity advisers at 200k a pop

I assumed that you were pushing the line that we shouldn't have had compulsory lockdowns. So IF I was wrong on that apologies but it would help please if you could say what you suppose this massive over reaction was. Yet I made it clear in my post that I didn't object to the initial precautionary reaction to an unknown quantity - ie 'three weeks to flatten the curve' (or whatever) However, what followed next was probably the most hideously opportunist piece of politeering in recent history. An idiotic, dangerous and inappropriate standard of liability was manufactured and promulgated for political advantage, which significantly cornered the government into over-prioritising covid. We are now paying the price. How would you handle it instead?
