Red Rackham ... "You like whisky. My fave tipple has always been Glenmorangie, but I'm currently sipping Gentleman Jack, it's a fad but it's delicious. I'll go back to Glenmorangie eventually, I always do" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My tastes have changed as I have got older, I now love trying different Whiskys, I have one friend who likes Laphroaig, but then I have another friend from Glasgow who says that he keeps a bottle of Laphroaig in case someone calls who he doesn't like. You're friend from Glasgow is quite right. Islay whiskeys are expensive disinfectant, imo.

That is no more than a prediction by the over zelouse.....I could state that I predict snow in August and that would hold as much water as those who will die due to pollution in Northamptonshire.

sandypine ... "What is your measure of an improved life? What a parameters are you choosing? As a case in point we could improve 25,000 lives per year by banning cars and lorries outright and thus stopping several thousand deaths and many disablements as well as stopping the pollution. However that would worsen the lives of millions of people. So a policy for improving lives also worsens lives. Many actions to 'improve' have other counter improvement effects. It sounds like making people walk is progressive" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Mayor of London is not wanting to ban all cars from London He, and the London Assembley are wanting to ban cars which produce high levels of toxic emissions, and cars which give off low emissions will not be charged, neither will electric cars. Why cannot people like you see common sense - its a policy which will clean up the air quality and the outcome will be better for the health of Londoners.
For now. But the plan is that all private vehicles will be charged. It's a prelude to road pricing.
The argument has nothing to do with air quality, as I've stated, the mayors own figures show that it will have minimal effect on air quality in outer London.
The real purpose is to plug the massive hole in TFL's finances.
That Khan has to refer to ordinary Londoners as "Far Right" shows that he can't win the argument on the facts.

But when I went to the BHF website there was no such data found. Apparently it was a 2017 study but I cannot find it.

Maybe the point being it was once there, but is no longer, which might say the so called experts weren't experts at all, but the general public were meant to swallow it hook line and sinker.

This man is, a menace, a megalomaniac whose obsession in life is to turn Londonistan into a cycle only area, I wonder how he germts about does he have a mayoral limousine or a bike and is the car liable to the same set of costs paid by him and not the GLC Of one thing I am sure he's slowly grinding Londonistan into a no go area, smaller businesses will fail leaving the high flyers who can afford it clear roads to get to their ivory towers Khan must be making millions a day in motoring charges and fines its a massive source of revenue and Londoners should remember this when the elections roll round Sadiq Khan plots 'pay-as-you-drive' scheme using Ulez cameras: London Mayor asks TFL to look into developing plan to use more 'sophisticated technology' to charge road users London Mayor has faced a backlash over the ULEZ expansion to Outer London But TfL now looking at how ANPR cameras could form part of road user charging www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11822529/Sadiq-Khan-plots-pay-drive-scheme-using-Ulez-cameras.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490&ito=1490

Cities are always toxic it is why in Victorian times those with weakened constitutions moved to the coast.
I think the real disagreement is about pushing this to the outer zones of London where the health problem is seen to be less of an issue.
Our 17 year old petrol car is fine yet my brother's is not and it is a diesel.
Obviously if you are going to be out of pocket you are against it, unless you are well-off.
There may be another more sinister plan and that is to add on shortly later that they will use the new camera for charging car journeys by the mile.
On the pollution angle I found I had a problem after moving employer to a job on the local high street in outer London where the windows were open. I coughed daily and stopped coughing at the weekend. I left this employer.
So living on any road with high traffic will cause pollution that harms health.......
Under Bojo as mayor he trialled electric busses which in theory was a good move though the technology did not work properly then.

London ULEZ: Crowd cheers as outraged young man pleads for Sadiq Khan to 'listen to the people' Story by Matt Spivey • Yesterday 15:54 Crowds cheered as a young man called out Sadiq Khan in a meeting with Ealing residents when the topic turned to the upcoming ULEZ expansion as he told the Mayor to "listen to the people". The controversial ULEZ scheme will see the £12.50 daily charge being expanded to cover the whole of Greater London on August 29. The scheme is estimated to impact around 200,000 drivers of older cars and vans which fail to meet modern emissions standards. Sadiq held a People's Question Time in Ealing Town Hall which inevitably led to some debate about the ULEZ scheme. In a video shared on Twitter the young man addressed Sadiq: "We're talking about London's economic recovery, London is not affordable for a young person like me. www.mylondon.news/news/west-london-news/london-ulez-crowd-cheers-outraged-26388191?int_source=nba

The Labour Party will forever be tarnished with Tony Blair but for those that need an update on what a Labour government will mean, look no further than this man! The devil chose Blair as his role model and Khan as his disciple. Enough said.... The victims of Sadiq Khan's ULEZ expansion: From the woman facing £650 annual costs to visit sick relative to the tradesman looking at £3,000 bill and the grandmother whose grandchildren now can't visit. Business owner slams the Government as 'out of touch' for the expansion zones Another says it will 'disproportionately affect' those who must drive miles to get to their nearest shop www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-11802741/Victims-ULEZ-Woman-facing-650-year-costs-visit-sick-relative-tradesman-facing-3k-bill.html

Neares supermarket is best part of 15 miles away as are the DIY superstores. Khan is out of his box.

The problem is this is the cart before the horse. Spend your life 15 minutes from home and the services will follow once the demand is there. No way to run a city as the Mayor's duty is to run it for the benefit of the populace as a whole and not to join with other cities in agreeing a policy on climate change www.c40.org/

Indeed. Do they actually believe that all of their Fire Brigade, Ambulance Staff, Police, Doctors, Nurses, Teachers etc. will all live within 15 minutes? That there'll be a fully equipped Fire Station, Police Station, Hospital, School etc. in every 15 minute neighbourhood. And every kind of shop, leisure facility etc? And, if not, that there'll be comprehensive transport networks to get to those necessities? I mean, I'd love it if there was but I think that we all know that there never will be.
