It's the standard response of the cornered lefty: When you can't argue the facts accuse your opponent of being “Far Right” or “Racist”. It just proves that Khan has no valid argument. And he knows it. Indeed, he actually said people who disagree with his ULEZ plans are: far right, vaccine deniers, covid deniers, and Tories. It seems to me that as opposition grows, he is becoming increasingly desperate. |

Firstly, 4000 Londoners die each year prematurely due to polution
One third of all emissions come from road transport, and because the London Mayor has made all TFL buses compliant, it has reduced harmful emissions by 90% from buses.
Independent experts from Imperial College have stated that ULEZ has reduced polution in Central London by 23%, and that there is no other policy anywhere in the world that has been so transformative.
The ULEZ ( ultra low emmissions zone ) will charge UP TO £12.50 per day ... those vehicles which do not meet the minimum emissions standards.
Because there are poorer public transport connections in outer London, the new charges will coincide with a massive expansion of the bus network, adding one million killometres of new bus routes.
SCRAPPAGE SCHEME ... There is to be a £110 Million fund to provide financial assistance to those eligable, which not only includes disabled people, those on benefits and low incomes, but also small businesses.
Clean air is not a privilige - it is a RIGHT

Last night a Public Meeting was held regarding the expansion of the London ULEZ Zone, there is growing opposition to his policy as it will cost many people thousands of pounds to change their older no compliant vehicles, scrap them otherwise they will have to pay £12.50 per day to drove in outer London or enter London. He was heckled and suprise surprise, he referred to people outside protesting as Right Wingers, Covid deniers, Vaccine Deniers, and Tories how unexpected you either agree with him and if you don't that is what you must be, www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11815741You just couldn't make it up :DBefore anyone tries to rubbish the story because it is in the DM, (am I too late?), I have seen the video of the vile mayor, saying exactly those words, so it is a true report. I listened to a discussion earlier in which people who claimed to be experts came out with the above points in defence of Khan's ULEZ scheme, although one point they neglected to mention is the fact that ULEZ will generate £300 million a year straight into Khan's coffers but of course, that has nothing to do with it, right kids. However, the points raised were successfully debunked by other 'experts' who had contradictory data. It's a bit like climate change, both sides have 'experts' and as far as the hoi polloi are concerned whoever you believe is largely subjective, or in the case of outraged lefties, emotional. |

It's a tax pure & simple. Khan's own figures prove that the ULEZ expansion will have minimal effect on air quality in outer London.
The scrappage scheme only applies to people on benefits, who have nowhere to be anyway.
And, as for the "Massive expansion" of the bus network, that's a "No" too: Every Labour member of the GLA voted that one down.
So they've reduced public transport and implemented a tax for driving your own vehicle. What a blow to the workers of London.

Covid has taught us to doubt 'experts' to a very large degree and also to illustrate how wrong then can be. Your claim that the 'whole world' knows that London was a heavily polluted city, and now thanks to Khan [That is the implication] is now clean, is little more than a laugh. I suspect history is not your subject, London hasn't been heavily polluted since the 1950's, in fact London has cleaner water and air now than at any time since before the industrial revolution. London is not on, or is in any danger of being added to the list of worlds most polluted cities, but many cities that are on that list are in China, India, Russia, Indonesia, generally speaking, coal based economies that don't give a flying fuck about net zero. If you think London is polluted I have to assume you have never travelled, in which case my advice is stop whinging and get out of your insular left wing bubble, but you cant because that would mean air travel, and that would make you a hypocrite and I'm sure you're not a hypocrite, are you. |
