The cross-party committee maybe economical with the words used in their report but can't claim the Gray report had nothing to do with the decision. A 'smell' has been released and it will now taint all conversations on Partygate/Ms Gray now working for the Labour party. Starmer has scored 'an own goal' ahead of the the next PMQ's. Owen Jones blasts Starmer over Sue Gray as stunned Tory MPs agree with left-wing activist Story by Katie Harris • Yesterday 21:08 Owen Jones has hit out at Sir Keir Starmer for appointing partygate investigator Sue Gray as his chief of staff. The move has sparked uproar from Boris Johnson and his allies who insist it raises questions about the Privileges Committee's inquiry into whether he lied to the House of Commons over lockdown-breaking parties in Downing Street. And it has even attracted criticism from left-wing activist Mr Jones who took to Twitter today to blast Ms Gray's new Labour role. He said: "Labour's appointment of Sue Gray meets the 'would you think this is bad if the Tories did it' test, and anyone claiming otherwise isn't being honest with themselves." Mr Jones' post was retweeted by a number of stunned Tory MPs who said they agreed with him. Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland MP Simon Clarke said: "There is a first time for everything. I agree with Owen. "This is the key point - it's just a deeply unwise appointment, and damaging to the Civil Service in a way all parties should care about." www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/owen-jones-blasts-starmer-over-sue-gray-as-stunned-tory-mps-agree-with-left-wing-activist/ar-AA18c8gX?cvid=292666a38ec34e978dea356204007578&ocid=winp2fptaskbarhover&ei=5

A few friends in the same bubble sharing a few drinks and an impromptu Birthday party. It may surprise you it was NOT a law that was broken but just a guidline. Whereas starmers pissup had been planned weeks before it took place.

A FPN is a fine.No they got fined because the police saw the evidence and that was worthy of the fine. I agree, the police did not seem interested until pressure was brought to bear but the fact that they were fined shows rules were. in the opinion of the investigators, broken, we should be asking why the police were not interested instead. Wrong....oh and BTW it doesn't make anyone a criminal before you start with that old BS. They broke the law. Why do you think the police were 'reluctant' to investigate, given that when they did they issued 126 fines?

This is no surprise to me. The Civil Service are supposed to be impartial, but they appear to be rather left leaning. They are also pro-European, owing to the number of EU nationals on their staff. She just highlights the problem with the civil service today they are politicised, and therefore they are far from impartial. Groupthink mentality straight from Oxbridge. Unfortunately, the civil service today believe and behave like continentals in the top-down approach - technocrats knowing what's best for the plebs; the bottom up democracy that was traditionally prevalent in Britain is being eroded.

This is also my view. The battle line is technocratic and top-down vs the kind of organic, unofficial and emergent society the UK has run successfully for quite a while now. This is why sections of the UK government (esp the civil service) see the bulk of the UK public as some kind of political enemy. It's the battle for the future shape of human civilisation.

We have a Civil servent who post on here the Squeezed middle he certainly isnt left wing and wonder if he finds his work environment left wing or immpatial I find it left wing.

The only thing that saved starmer was the fact that he was supported by the swamp.

They got fined because the police deemed the parties as 'illegal', because you may have got away with it it does not mean our law makers should. The police were not interested until they were leant on by the sanctimonious left....And they were not fined just issued a FPN was all.. Yes at least one in this thread does not understand that Boris nor anyone else working in Downing Street and there are lots of them in numerous offices were "Charged" with any Criminal Offence, they were issued with simple non-recordable Fixed Penalty Notices which gives you a choice to pay the penalty fine , or go to Court and argue the toss
