Brexit has nothing to do with French border employees turning up for work..or not. Brexit has everything to do with the fact that British tourists are now subject to third-country border checks. There were always checks at the border - the UK was never in the Schengen Zone.

Border checks on third-country passport holders are different and more time consuming than border checks carried out on British passport holders. And that is, if you can consider giving a perfunctory glance at your passport photo to be a form of border check. But who's talking about Schengen?

If queues build up at immigration desks whose fault is it? - the people in the queue or the government for not putting on enough immigration officers?

Really? - so the massive queue's that built up at Heathrow arrivals when there was a shortage of immigration desks open were nothing to do with the Government...

Focus on Dover -- ferries, tailbacks, massive delays, French border officials, British tourists, extra document checks on citizens of a third country like the UK, etc. etc. etc.

Exactly the same happens at every border across the globe.

The French authorities, the head of Port of Dover and the Immigration Services Union stated unequivocally that additional and more rigorous border checks caused the delays at the port of Dover -- i.e., Brexit. Then there was the fact that it was the first "Brexit vacation" after the pandemic plus there was an accident on the M20 or somewhere. I believe them. What they were saying made sense. Had we been EU members, surely, cars and trucks would have been "wave through; waved into" France. French border officials wouldn't have had to check expiry dates, dog passports, Covid certificates, stamp passports, ad nauseam. France is not responsible for Brexit. We are no longer members. We ditched that lofty status long ago; therefore, we now have to suck it up. This is the time to inject Botox into the lips of the stiff-upper-lipped Brits.

You're talking about those who cross the English Channel on dinghies? They're asylum seekers. No passports to check. No credit card to swipe. No cash to count.

France is not responsible for Brexit but they are responsible for manning their own border immigration checks. If France chooses to man those checks so that massive queues build up then that is a decision for them - the UK has no responsibility in determining how the French control their borders.

I'm not yet sure of the details but apparently, France increased their people from 100 or so to 200 or so. On the other hand, the UK rejected proposals to increase the immigration booths at the port. Compare and contrast.
