You mean, do what China does - not hobble ourselves with environmental regulation and build / sell trinkets of environmentalism to economies that are hobbling themselves? umm China has the most power generated by solar than anyone on the planet. They also have the most wind and the most hydroelectric. Our power is so expensive because Maggie decided to sell everything off cheap to her hubby's banking buddies. We pay more to make rich people richer. Besides, solar energy is the cheapest out there. Especially now gas is so bloody expensive. We also have a lot of nuclear energy which is the most expensive out there. China has a lot of the same environmental regulations that we have but their government is not run by and for the benefit of the fossil fuel industry. We don't even get the benefits of cheap solar energy because the price is set by the most expensive form of energy production and all the others are allowed to charge the same rate. So it's not the Greens pricing us out of competitive manufacturing costs it's greedy fucking energy producers and their shareholders. Margaret Thatcher responsible, although she resigned 33 years ago and died 10 years ago. Get real. Anything she ever did could have been reversed by now with the political will. Tony Blair admired her though.

China's annual emissions today are about double those of the US, according to UN data (from the BBC). The USA has a GDP of ~ 23 trillion and the China has GDP of ~ 18 trillion Yes, despite the efforts of Trump and his republican buddies the USA is actually heading towards renewable energy at a decent rate. They could still do more though. China produce a lot more though so using GDP doesn't give the true figure. A lot of the USA's GDP is made off selling products made in China from Iphones to MAGA hats.

I think that's wise. Forget about all that China nonsense and focus on Trump.

Horses arse - China produces more CO2 per capita than the UK precisely because we have more stringent environmental regulations than China and more (expensive) renewable energy production. Which is precisely why western manufacturers shift production to Chine - it is cheap.

Who was picking on anyone? The point was made that if the UK wanted to become a manufacturing giant (of green tech) like China, it would likely have to remove the restrictions that make such a path unviable presently

U.S.A 14.87 China 8.05 Uk 5.15 I dont live in America and UK manufacturing is not being offshored to America. How the fuck is that supposed to keep people in Britain warm at night when the lights go out - will they feel better because America emits more CO2 than China? - or will they think, 'I wish I lived in America"?

Renewable isn't more expensive.Of course it is - technological limitations mean that you need to build a parallel generation system for when renewables are not producing. Hence the latest idea of yet another 'green subsidy' to be added to energy bills.

Who was picking on anyone? The point was made that if the UK wanted to become a manufacturing giant (of green tech) like China, it would likely have to remove the restrictions that make such a path unviable presently Sorry I didn't know you hadn't read the thread or your own words Very many people on here keep citing China as a reason why we should stop bothering to cut our Co2 production. But China's Co2 per capita is far better than the U.S so why not point to them? China has a reasonable argument for their pollution, that they do our manufacturing. So if we want to switch that manufacturing to the UK then it will by default stop in China. The reason or Co2 production is so low is BECAUSE we don't manufacture, not because restrictions prevent us.

Hence the latest idea of yet another 'green subsidy' to be added to energy bills. That can still be cheaper as building the power station is a tiny part of the cost of the energy produced.

But China's Co2 per capita is far better than the U.S so why not point to them? Ok but what is the Chinese population and what is the US population Eistein? Me thinks your maths ain't great.
