How did it cost 100,000 FFS?........... Demand an audit of Council spending.........Tomorrow we will probably be reading about a scandal involving their woeful social housing where people live in dam, mouldy accommodation and hearing how the council cannot afford to attend to it.......Sums up labour pretty much. Waste money and don't listen to the public! The 'hard-up' Labour council that blew £100,000 changing the name of Black Boy Lane even though its own survey found not a single objection from a black person... And provoked a spectacular backlash! www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11685469/The-hard-Labour-council-blew-100-000-changing-Black-Boy-Lane.html

How the fuck Jonksy can read the papers or listen to the news and yet fail to see that ALL this incidents are going on under a TORY government is beyond me. Blame Labour for their fuck ups fair enough but £100,000 is peanuts compare to how much money the Tories have wasted and bribed away. I wonder if he's ever heard of PPE.

whilst I think its a stupid waste of money. I don't believe the DM's £100,000 figure for a moment.
Just looked into it. Most of the money (£75,000) is set aside to pay each street resident £300 for the inconvenience involved in changing the street name.
Daily mail exaggerations involve a full time diversity officer for a full year £50,000 and Legal fees up to £50,000.
The actual changes cost £7,500 for street and bus stop signs
Still bloody mad for a council to spend even £7,500 on this and offer compensation to residents.
Why is everything the government does so bloody wasteful.

All ... Councils in England have less money to spend in Real Terms
Local authority ‘spending power’ – that is, the amount of money local authorities have to spend from government grants, council tax, and business rates – has fallen by 16% since 2010.
Where I live, council offices have shut meaning some communities have no point of contact with the council.
Roads that were once treated in Winter ice no longer get treated, and no paths get treated.
Staff have been sacked, many areas are looking shabby, unkept and overgrown, yet Council Tax goes up every year by more than the rate of inflation.
Yes, there are too many social homes that are not fit to live in, many social homes are in need of repair, refurbishment, upgrading and insulating. We actually desparately need more social homes.
But the Conservative government gives local authorities less money, and the Conservatives have no plans to build social housing on the scale that is needed.

I have…..So what’s your excuse for having to govern during a pandemic, along with Brexit and the petulance thrown up on the UK by the EUSSR in their petty vindictiveness they had to deal with all that shit plus stammer and his slappers hypocritical sanctomy.

Why is everything the government does so bloody wasteful. It was actually over £100,000. As well as the street signs and the compensation to each resident (and business) you had the costs of 2 consultation exercises (in which 81% of the streets residents were against the name change), the hours spent by Council officers in meetings about it and 2 in-person and one online ‘engagement sessions’ to explain why the Council were ignoring the wishes of the residents that managed a total of one attendee between them.

Well the 75,000 has not been claimed as yet, so we don't know, but I agree about the extra cost of two consultations. Apparently 81% of the streets residents didn't want it changed but the wider population in the area were in favour. But overall I agree its a total waste of money at a time when money is very short.

If anything the total cost is likely under-estimated. This initiative likely didn't come from someone who had a proper job providing a needed service, it more likely came from highly trained diversity specialists on between 75k - 150k a pop.
