Scottish voters would reject independence if a referendum was held tomorrow, a new poll has suggested. The snapshot survey showed 46% of people would vote to leave the UK, while 54% would vote to stay. It is the first poll on independence of the year and comes after a number of polls towards the end of 2022 suggested a spike in support for Scotland leaving the UK in the wake of the Supreme Court judgement on 'Indyref2'. However, the new poll took place before the UK Government used its Section 35 powers to block Holyrood's gender recognition reform legislation, triggering another constitutional dispute. The latest poll was carried out by Survation for advisory company True North, with 1,002 Scots being surveyed between 10 January and 12 January. news.sky.com/story/majority-of-scots-would-vote-against-independence-new-poll-suggests-12791201

Now they can get back to scratching their collective heads framing the exact wokish terminology for a bunch of semi-reflective, physiologically non-genetically modified and unsurgicaly unenhanced males undergoing short term mental transitioning caused by heightened ingestion of flavoured enthanol proceeding in a non-linear fashion to Murrayfield wearing a kilts..... it used to be called a bunch of pissed lads off to the rugby but...shit....what to say these days....?? I weep.... Not long now, only 2 weeks till the start of the Six Nations.

Hi thescotsman, As one who has his fair share of woke sensibilities I suspect that I should be mildly offended by your post, but it is just too well crafted, funny and accurate for me to care. Welcome to the forum. I am sure that you are going to ruffle some feathers along the way.

Indyref2 is not going to happen any time soon (if ever) so why waste time poring over these polls looking for crumbs of comfort?

Hi morayloon Are you one on the independence side who has changed the campaign into a referendum campaign? It's for independence, not a referendum. For example, what if you get a second referendum and lose it?

There are no "shenanigans" emanating from Westminster, they are quite properly and with legal rights blocking legislation passed by the Scottish Parliament that affects the UK as a whole. From what we read and what we hear this action by the UK Government is being met by approval and relief by the majority of Scots. It also will be noted by the more thoughtful Scots that without fuss, fanfare or alleged corruption, the UK Government have funded a new ferry for the Shetland Islands, something the Scottish Parliament is manifestly unable to achieve.

A poll by a newspaper that says it supports independence commissions a poll that has a majority for independence ? No shit !😁

The National and its' fixed "polls" have no credibility with normal people, it is the sort of thing that Jaydee reads and bases his observations on. You might be better reading this truenorth.scot/what-does-scotland-think-our-first-true-north-poll-2023/ rather than the Nationalist rubbish. Sir John Curtis advises us of the following “Following on from polling conducted shortly before Christmas that pointed in the same direction, today’s poll suggests that the spike in support for independence registered after the Supreme Court judgement on indyref2 has proven to be temporary. At 46%, support for Yes in today’s poll is little different from the 47% figure Survation obtained when they previously addressed the issue last August.

Bentley, the Nationalist polls are taken in a Glasgow pub among 7 people who have their drinks paid for by the polling researcher. Only Tommo and Jaydee would take the results seriously.

It is just a matter of time. All of the shenanigans emanating from Westminster will surely increase Indy support. Hi morayloon Are you one on the independence side who has changed the campaign into a referendum campaign? It's for independence, not a referendum. For example, what if you get a second referendum and lose it? I will accept a referendum if it happens but the election scenario is about opening Independence negotiations and I am totally behind that. Maggie Thatcher is said to have stated that if the SNP won a majority of seats that would be Scotland on its way out of the UK It used to be SNP policy that a majority of Westminster seats would trigger Independence negotiations. Then, in the 90s, IIRC, it changed to winning a referendum. Now it seems to have gone full circle. As Bruce is said to have said "if at first you don't succeed, try and try again"
