While we in the UK pray for a windy day so that we can use our useless and expensive air source heat pumps to heat our homes the Chinese will be busy building coal and oil fuelled power stations . The Chinese are also big on solar energy. Green is the future, green will bring an increased level of independence to the UK, a green future is the obvious because the planet deserves to be respected.

Nonsense, the green push by Starmer is right, even the Tories are beginning to talk green. Energy will be a big decider on how well the country operates in the near future. They're talking green because there's a lot of school kids indoctrinated into green who will have the vote come the next election; another gerrymandering exercise. Who knows, they may afford some latitude to get those kids to the polling booths, just like happened prior to the referendum as Cameron was running scared. Sadly that is just your opinion, IMO green IS the future.

I'm not defending the new power stations being built by the Chinese, I am pointing out the obvious green direction that many countries are already investing in. And doing so because of the common sense and intelligent thinking that lays behind going Green.

The point is that the UK could cripple its economy and have severe problems while trying to reduce its modest carbon footprint while China , India and other countries are ramping up their carbon footprint .

It is up to the UK to make sure that it does not "cripple its economy and have severe problems" and there is no chance that any UK government would do that. Regardless of targets aimed for. The more countries that think green or go Green, the more new innovations or improvements for producing green energy will emerge.

You are correct. We need to use fossil fuel power stations for as long as they are needed. We need to keep the price of petrol and diesel as low as possible , build nuclear power stations and invest in new green energy technology.

Well they wont have a choice as more and more oil companies are scaling back production in the North Sea due to the crippling taxation. They are now at the point where even if the Government say they want more investment they dont believe them. So the future is high energy prices, less industry (as it will all have decamped to more business friendly countries) and fuel poverty for the many - that is the route that the UK have chosen to go down. But apparently feeling virtuous keeps you warm at night.. ...and not destroying the planet for future generations. Oh ffs ZG, how virtuous. Tell that to China or India or a dozen other countries who are not even remotely interested in net-zero. You don't seem to understand that even if the government switched off UK Plc and we went back to living in caves it would make not a jot of difference we are too small, our effect on a global level is at worst negligible. Meanwhile western industry continues to move to China a coal based economy, because renewable energy costs are too high in Europe. It's absolute insanity.

If the UK stopped exporting its industrial base and actually started to make things then it would not be able to manufacture much without using fossil fuel energy . An eco worrier who buys anything from China is as much of a hypocrite as a vegan who eats meat.

And doing so because of the common sense and intelligent thinking that lays behind going Green. National governments and public mass hysteria, all fuelled by the conversion of the young into mass hysteria. Are you a climate change denialist? Or do you perhaps think that we are excessively concerned about it and should have other priorities? Asking because I genuinely don't know and do not wish to jump to conclusions about where you stand based upon your single sentence above, which could certainly be interpreted in such a way. You speak of the mass hysteria of the young but I see little sign of that. They do though often have the good sense to take climate change more seriously than many of the older aga groups. Do you see that as a sign of hysteria? Because if so it suggests to me that you are not taking the issue seriously enough yourself. It is worth bearing in mind re the passage of time that a young persons perspective is very different to an older persons. The latter may have only a decade or two left and the years are whizzing by. The former might have 60 or 70 years left which still seems like an age. And clearly longer term change is going to directly affect them much more simply because they are going to be around to suffer much more of it. They are also, as young people tend to be, more open to new information that challenges accepted wisdom, and are thus more open to the evidence for climate change. Many older people grew up largely if not wholly unaware that there was any big problem and are more resistant to the notion that there is late in life. It all seems a bit new fangled and over the top to many of them.

In 2019 the CEC (China Electricity Council) recommended to the government that new build coal fired power stations should be restricted to 2 large 5 or 6 MW plants a month for the next 12 years. That's another 288 large coal fired power stations by 2030 to add to the 1,182 they already have. And you reckon the Chinese are big on solar lol, get in the bin. That's what they want you to think. unearthed.greenpeace.org/2019/03/28/china-new-coal-plants-2030-climate/

Which has given us our most expensive energy in history - well done that man... The price of oil and gas has done that. Not extracting enough oil & gas while attempting to rely on renewables has given us the most expensive energy in history.
