I think we understand that, we also understand that the heating up of the planet has never been aided and abetted by human produced green house gasses to this extent before today. If only you could prove that. Another denialist. Where are your credentials to back up your extraordinary claim to know more than the world's top scientists? Most rational people trust them rather more than a handful of elderly stick in the muds who cannot embrace new realities.

Who suggested forcing people in this country into fuel poverty? It's already happening! Havent you heard? Millions of people in this country, the fifth wealthiest country in the world, cant afford renewable energy. The price of renewable energy is linked to the price of gas by the markets. That is what needs to change. Energy is costing us so much because of the market price for gas, not the cost of renewables

OK, lets assume you're right and current climate change is man made. How will forcing people in this country into fuel poverty save the planet? The UK is a tiny country that accounts for just 0.8% of the global population and who's contribution to global emissions is negligible. Forcing us into fuel poverty will not stop the big polluters, it will just make us poorer and UK Plc less competitive. The world’s biggest polluters. 1. China 2. United States 3. India 4. Russia 5. Japan 6. Germany 7. Iran 8. South Korea 9. Saudi Arabia 10. Indonesia climatetrade.com/which-countries-are-the-worlds-biggest-carbon-polluters/Can you not see the inherent idiocy in what you are saying? If every nation says we on our own can make little difference, none of us will do anything and we all fuck up the planet together. Every nation has to do its bit including us. And others wont bother if we dont. You are being so pig ignorantly short sighted How spectacularly naive to think that if the big polluters suddenly looked west and saw us in tiny net-zero UK looking very virtuous as we froze our tits off they would suddenly feel guilty and say, fair enough we'll trash our economies as well. Before bursting out laughing and building another new coal fired power station. If only the Chinese were as innocent and trusting as you.

Most of the richer nations are doing something. Many are ahead of us. This forum is so despairingly full of old fools who temperamentally cannot embrace new knowledge, new thinking and new realities so constantly invent any reason they can think of to justify not doing so. When the planet is screwed over future generations will curse the memory of people like you

When the planet is screwed over future generations will curse the memory of people like you You're a bloody fool. All this ECO bollocks came about by the OSTP Leaking a misleading press release to CBS news weeks prior to President Clinton’s State of the Union address, the Executive Branch laid the groundwork for its message that environmental catastrophe is around the corner “unless we act.” Indeed, President Clinton’s final address to the nation raised fears of “deadly heat waves,” more frequent droughts, flooding of coastal areas, and general economic disruption. The press release based on the NRC’s report excels in misdirection, a technique quite familiar to magicians and others who want to mislead their audiences. The headline starts with the words “new evidence,” even though there isn’t any......And the usual woke arseholes fell for the bullshit hook line and sinker and then accuse others of being idiots or bloody fools if they dare to disagree with their ill informed views. At the very least they should come to the debating table with a knowledge on the subject rather than lefty woke spoon fed bullshit.

There’s an irony in the fact that the same old farts who whine that boomers ruined young peoples future are trying to make the UK significantly poorer in the near future by imposing a zero carbon UK too soon…thus ruining young peoples future.

It will not be done "too soon". The economy will always be the controlling factor, no government would be foolish enough to deliberately trash the economy.

So there might be quite a u turn at the end of the decade then. If necessary, yes. But it needn't be too big a turn as its likely that good progress will have been made in the mean time.

There is nothing in the Net Zero Law that makes it dependent on the state of the economy. AFAIA, net zero is a target which the government is committed to, not a law that cannot be broken. IMO, the economy will always come first.
