It's a big swizz we could have produced and invested in lots of renewable energy sources, but we've been bought off by the Arabs and other wealthy investors, no one gets wealthy off 'free' or renewable energy, who's going to make maga bucks sourcing free energy from the Sun, no one owns the sun and no one has rights to the sun, so lets not go there.

I don't do party politics, I dislike them intensely. You may think that because I referred you to Reform UK I'm one of those; I gave up some time ago though they would make a change to the esatablished parties and cerainly couldn't do any worse. The fact you are only 57 does at least give you the chance of comeing round before old age sets in. Are you seeking carers allowance? No, my labours on this forum in a valiant but mostly unsuccessful attempt to stop the elderly from being wrong is entirely voluntary. Makes you wonder if our generation will be remembered as the most selfish ever. The most alienated from our young since the 1950's.

Rather than relying on our own. Or our own renewable, either involves a cost, one is much cheaper when completed and lasts forever. (guess which one) Are you aware that in spite of the fact we have billions of cubic metres of shale gas in the ground in this country, Sunak recently signed a deal with Biden to import 10 billion cubic metres of shale gas from the US. This is economics of the mad house. We have more shale gas than you could shake a stick at, we could be self sufficient for years. Instead, we are importing it from thousands of miles away on ships that burn c250 tonnes of heavy diesel oil per hour. It sounds too stupid to be true doesn't it.

Neither your nor SRB are of my generation and you weren't around to have a view on the fifties. The forties and fifties were better than anyting since in terms of social harmony. Current alienation is largely coming from the opposite direction to what you propose.

I think that even when we reach carbon neutral we will still require some fossil fuels. So I support extracting our own. But I still think long term renewables are the answer to all our needs.

The children of the noughties feel the same way about their grandparents. Me me and me first.

I think for most people reality will dawn that net-zero is unachievable, certainly in the short term. But there will always be a few left wing eco zealots who think they're on a mission from god.
