I was about to post a 'like' for you post until I read about your claim about Grammar schools 'liberating the more intelligent working class students. The 11+ was just about the most diabolical way of deciding who would go to grammar schools and who would not. A system introduced by well meaning educated morons who might have been hard pressed to design a more useless system. So you failed the 11+ ..,..... I never got the chance to find out I passed my 11+ a year early, but Shirley Williams conspired with Cardiffs Marxist LEA to actually have the grammar school I was entitled to attend BULLDOZED and all in our area bussed to a secondary modern at the end of a shithole council sink estate. They failed to dumb us down because in those days teachers were allowed to encourage academic talent unlike today but I still wonder if I’d have done better in my original chosen career in medical research or maybe studied medicine myself had I been given the appropriate leg up my IQ deserved.

You are intelligent enough to know that there was a wide open door for further study as in the 'Open University, and for personal research. Are you sure you didn't hold yourself back from your original personal ambitions?

Are you sure you didn't hold yourself back from your original personal ambitions? The English Mistress and Chemistry Master at that shithole school were two outstanding individuals who fought to keep the academically streamed forms the original segregated sex schools had when they began their careers. It is through their enthusiasm for their subjects and in particular the chemistry masters attitude to demonstration of exothermic reactions that I came away from that establishment with the enthusiasm for those subjects that frankly they infected me with. The same goes for the French Master whose thick picardian peasant accent I picked up in French lessons, and retain to this day. With thirteen O levels, most grade 1 or 2, three A levels, a degree in a hard science and a postgraduate certification in medical jurisprudence, multiple research papers in the British Library, and at the last count several hundred people walking the earth a while longer than the grim reaper originally intended thanks to a few ideas I had which others took over after Maggie Thatcher shut off my grant funding, I’ve done pretty well for myself and when the time comes I will shuffle off this mortal coil reasonably satisfied with my contribution to society. My point which you clearly spectacularly fail to grasp is I DO wonder how much better I might have done had left wing arseholes not gone out of their way to try to fuck upon my life chances given to me by my IQ measured at 142 in university and something of a disappointment to my father (150) snd grandfather (155) at the time. Although I think the income I was raking in before another Labour shithead by the name of Blair threw a spanner in the works made dad see if done pretty well. I’m pleased he’s not around to see the mess this country is these days. It would annoy him to think he and his father before him went to great lengths to provide the government of their day the weaponry to defend it.

Yes. I was part deaf, no one noticed and I didn't realise I was lip reading so if I couldn't see the teachers face I had no idea what was going on BUT I WANTED TO LEARN. I left a Secondary Mod aged 15years, able to read, write, do basic maths and good at comprehension. Then. Night school. College, private tuition and University. So you see I am able to understand and weigh up situations, so when I see smart arsed comments by people like yourself I wonder just how many not too bright smart arsed individuals there are out there. Iirc the 11+ was basically an English / intelligence test . I remember that we had to decode a message in ours. Pretty easy to be honest . I never actually sat for the 11+ I failed to take it and had Little doubt that it was not for me. Late in the previous year I sat an intelligence test, most of those who sat got 65% or less correct, Just myself and one other got a 90% result. I have to say it did surprise me.

John, I have the utmost appreciation and admiration for your work, (and have done for a long time,) along with your intelligence plus the ownership of the very important ingredients of 'Insight and understanding' without which much of your ideas would have fizzled out before fruition. I have met some people who claimed to have a high IQ but appeared to lack insight. In my world people like yourself would have received all the help and encouragement they needed because that would be beneficial both to yourself and the nation. But I believe that for the majority of people (the 11+ only allowed a limited few to pass onto Grammar school education. ) The hit and miss 11+ is why the comprehensive system was a necessity.

If you sat an intelligence test and did well then the 11+ was for you . I have pondered that before today, my conclusion was that intelligence tests are not actually testing ones academic level. I found the intelligence test easy, it was my classwork that I struggled with and I put much of that down to my hearing impediment. Which was initially a nuisance but eventually led me to lose interest in the classroom. It never occurred to me that other peoples hearing was any different to my own.

As for being ruled by the working class, one only needs to look at the fiasco of the referendum to see just how ridiculous that suggestion is. Referendum! Since we weren't allowed one in 1992 when against the wishes of the electorate we were handed to the EU, I assume you refer to the referendum of 2016, otherwise known as the largest democratic vote in British history.

And like a typical Blairite you have zero understanding of why that happened or your part in driving them to it. Instead you contemptuously assume it is because they are all thick or all racists or whatever it is you mean by your disdainful comment laden with contempt for the working class. You are yourself an example of why the working class no longer feels that Labour is their party anymore.

That took place with lies and deception, a shame that must have embarrassed many pro-British in other countries. A shame that is on this countries reputation. You want stunted misinformed opinions by the masses to replace Parliamentary Democracy, I think you need to look a little deeper than the so far failed Brexit direction you and those like you took the country in.

It is clear that you don't like me and in response I don't like you. Even when I attempted to bury the hatchet at Christmas in a spirit of goodwill, you threw it back in my face with contempt. We are never going to get on. The most constructive thing we could do at this point is just to put each other on ignore, but I am never going to do that unilaterally. I think you are a pompous and arrogant individual with active disdain for anyone who doesn't see things your way, prone to mislabelling people, utterly blinkered and unable to think outside your Blairite box and apparently believing that New Labour is infallible, as if Blair is the frigging pope, lol. There are people on this forum whose politics I disagree with much more than yours, yet nowhere do I get such total hostility as I do from you. It is becoming most tiresome

Indeed, lets look at some of those lies: 1. Just before the referendum prime minister Cameron said if we voted to leave the EU the government may not be able to pay pensions. This was a direct threat to an anti EU demographic, and a blatant lie. 2. Just before the referendum chancellor Osborne said if we voted to leave the EU, then within three months he would have to hold an emergency budget in which income tax and VAT would rise by as much as 3%. Another blatant lie. 3. Just before the referendum Mark Carney the govenor of the Bank of England said if we voted to leave the EU it would be 'immediately' disastrous for the UK economy. After the referendum he appeared before a treasury select committee to answer questions on why his predictions of economic disaster were so wrong.
