Confirmed. Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng is sacked. The question is, who will replace him?

Confirmed. Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng is sacked. The question is, who will replace him? Well IMHO Rishi Sunak would be a good Chancellor to stabilise the markets but of course he won't take the job under that clown Truss so she has to be the next to go.

Names in the frame are Nadhim Zahawi, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Jeremy Hunt, Therese Coffey and Sajid Javid.
I swallowed slightly at a poll this morning showing that a snap election could leave the Conservative Party with only 79 seats.

Zahawi might be credible IF he'd take the job under a lame duck PM du jour, those other names

Rishi Sunak is toxic, he may be the darling of the parliamentary conservative party, but there are a lot of conservative voters out there who see him as the man who stabbed Boris in the back.

The Tories really have fucked themselves, stupid twats. And now Truss has to adopt the policies of the man she beat for the leadership.
You couldn't make it up.
I said that they should have gone for Sunak.
I hate being right all the time.

And a lot that would have stabbed him given the chance. He's your best chance of keeping Labour out of office

I see the whole party as stabbing Boris in the back, but that's politics.
Then there's fiscal competence and Sunak at least has that in spades.

I mean you just don't know what's going to happen next.

I think Truss will struggle to stay in office, sadly. She was 100% behind Kwasi Kwarteng's mini budget, she said she was in lockstep with the chancellor. Clearly Jeremy Hunt will not pursue the same policies as his predecessor. Will Truss resign? I doubt it but who knows, she is making a statement at 2.30pm.
One thing is for sure, it's a great time to be a journalist.

Lis Truss has just made a short statement in which she thanked Kwasi Kwarteng and confirmed Jeremy Hunt as the new chancellor. She backtracked on plans not to increase corporation tax and said it would increase in line with plans set down by the previous government. Other than that, she seems determined to press on with her economic plan.
