Agree that they cannot be penalised for entering the country illegally, think that we agree on this bit. However, in answer to "If you come to the UK illegally, you are an illegal migrant", it opens with "Not in all cases.". So your summary "But they are still illegal..." is incorrect, or at least an oversimplification of the facts. Point me to the part in your link (or link to any other site) that shows that demanding asylum makes you a legal migrant. The point, i think, is those who do that and THEN successfully make the case to our immigration authorities they really are in fear of action from their place of origin for being, doing, believing or thinking something a person born here to parents with british citizenship can be, do, believe or think here legally, then they will be granted leave to remain. I don't have a problem with that. The issue is of course for every one such who finds a lawyer to argue that at the courtroom my wife used to work in, until one of their rejects gave covid to the whole room and killed two of the staff, there are 100 shysters pulling a fast one. Or trying to.

If they are in a safe country, they don't have any right to enter the UK without permission - full stop. Whether the uk would grant them asylum if they appear in the UK is a separate issue.

The modern problems of increased population, violent national and political activism, accessible and constant communications have made the current internationally agreed procedures and rules for dealing with and handling refugees unworkable.
It seems doubtful that any international or intergovernmental organisation will act any time soon to take the lead on resolving this growing threat to western stability, and several individual countries believe themselves to be a main target of mass migration.
Add in the usefulness of “mass immigration” as a bogeyman to further Ultra Right groups’ agendas, and the difficulty in resolving the problem is magnified…

I may be a Tory voter, I may be a member of the Tory party, but they've blown it. I think it's time we gave a new party a chance. The more I read about Reform the more I am tempted to Vote for them at the next GE, the Tories have gone to far to the Left IMO

The Tories are on a suicide mission, the funny side though, nobody votes for any of them.
