www.catholicnewsagency.com/amp/news/253131/woman-arrested-by-english-police-for-silent-prayer-in-buffer-zone-near-abortion-facilityNow I’ve deliberately chosen to take the report from the Catholic News Agency as some of the left leaning on here get offended about news articles from sites they dislike. I might put those links in here later. For the moment I’ll stick with the story Which is that a woman has been arrested for praying on an English Street. No, not quite The Head of a pro life anti abortion movement has been arrested for her fourth breach of a public space protection order put in place by Birmingham Council to prevent the intimidation and harassment of persons seeking the abortion clinics services. The PSPO bans a large number of activities within a certain distance of this clinics entrance and one of the activities specifically banned according to the police is praying. So I’m sorry but it’s a fair cop guv off to the dungeon she goes for after all what is her FOURTH offence No sympathy from me, she’s one step away from the scum that firebombed me and nail bombed my boss’s boss’s boss for the crime of wanting to find a cure for cancer.

Sorry mate totally disagree. The girl was standing quietly on the pavement not bothering anyone. That the Police had to ask whether she had been praying shows that she had been doing nothing that anyone else could object to. The whole episode is a total disgrace and shows the Police are out of control.

I'll guarantee if I rang the police to report something, I wouldn't get anty sort of response, maybe for days.

This was the fourth time she had been in violation of this order according to several accounts I see. I wonder what was she doing the previous three times. I wonder when they were. I wonder if her prior actions led to the police knowing who she was on the fourth occasion. Also, Why would a policeman ask ‘are you praying’. I’ve been asked many things by coppers over the years but that is a new one on me. I think that key to this is the statement I saw in the Catholic Times article that the Council had made a Public Spaces Protection Order that specifically banned prayer and other actions within the area. If you have a problem with prayer being an offence for which the police can take you away - and maybe it’s right that you should - then that should IMO be taken up with the council that defined it to be behaviour warranting arrest if conducted within the PSPO and not just criticise the police tasked with upholding that order made by that council. There’s a lot of things left unsaid about this I think.

I'm wondering how this rule may be applied to Moslems.
I'm wondering how this rule ever came in to being.

She was simply standing on the pavement, not bothering anyone else and not obviously praying. So this has ended up being the ultimate thought crime - she was arrested because the police think she might have been praying in her head. The Chief Constable should be sacked immediately and the arresting officer sent for retraining.

I'm pro choice, but with the best will in the world I cant see what harm this woman was doing. The fact that the police had to ask her if she had been praying suggests this is yet another case of the police shooting themselves in the politically correct foot. As Pacifico has pointed out, there isn't a snowballs chance in hell this rule would ever be applied to Muslims, even if they were carrying banners demanding infidels should be beheaded.

Apparently part of this story is fake put on Twitter by a media outlet in America, as John pointed out in the OP she has been arrested for breaking a Public Protection Order, not for praying silently, she should not have been there and she knew that as she has been arrested before for breaking the same order The PPO was put in place because those opposed to abortion have protested outside the Clinic and women who going to the clinic or working there have been confronted by the protesters on a number of occasions. www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1713603/anti-abortion-arrest...

The opening post links to a report that states that there are official buffer zones around some abortion clinics, and that this woman‘s recurring presence had already caused her to have been moved on three times previously. I guess the police thought someone standing and preying and or staring was enough to be construed as intimidation by workers and visitors to the clinic and considered a fourth infringement warranted move than moving on — after all, they only have her word as to what her intentions were, or might lead to…

You were there then were you Pacifico? I suggest you weren't and are instead relying on unreliable sources
She knew what she was doing, she had no legitimate reason to be there other than to breach the extant order.

But somehow I doubt anyone will complain too loudly, perish the thought a minority may construe any complaints as offensive in which case the police would, of course, have to investigate. I don't think George Orwell would believe what's happening in 21st century UK. It's madness.

Exposing the fascist agenda. They see it as harm. It's pretty obvious they work against your interests despite that you pay their wages.
