It sounds like fair business where you risk your own capital on a punt and the punt pays off. From what I hear, although I can't verify at this stage, there was a lot of PPE supplied that was unfit for use, and I think this may include Mone's supply. She was not risking her own capital because she did not have anything like the money. Yes that was the case - what puzzles me is why the NHS paid for these supplies without checking them. No time . When we COVID started to be recognised as a severe problem there was literally a few masks and goggles around . How could there be a credible check that wouldn’t slow down the supply? The stuff was needed today.

My guess is some kind of corrupt collusion. It's known as embezzlement.

Iirc there was reports of China holding on to the PPE . I don’t think it would of been a simple phone call to a supplier in China but maybe it would . However that wasn’t the question that I replied to. It was about checking the PPE before it was delivered.

The Johnson government ignored early intelligence on Covid. When it reacted, it was too late — the virus had got hold. The government then panicked and threw vast sums in all sorts of directions, and some — like vaccines, test kits, furlough, etc — came good. Plenty of money was filched through fraud, and still more was spent on useless supplies and activities.
Now there's strep A on the rampage, it seems like nobody in charge has learned much — penicillin is in short supply and commanding high prices, ambulances are taking hours to arrive patients are being kept in ambulances on arrival at hospital, and on A&E trolleys when they're admitted.
WTF is going on...?

If it is certification they will show you the certificates or whatever. Compared to dealing wit the average idiot in this country, it is a breeze. The girls there know what they are selling and all technical stuff to do with it.

Well once again I’ll point out that I was addressing the point about checking the PPE before delivery . However, going back to your point . I’m not sure if sourcing the PPE direct from China would of been that simple at that time …billions of pounds worth sitting in a warehouse waiting for a phone call for next day shipping .

The whole thing looks extremely shady, and this Mone character ought to be in prison for fraud. Though she needs a fair trial first just in case she has a viable defence and a set of good explanations. Haven't heard any so far though. What did she do that was fraudulent? This Medpro company she set up didn't exist until 5 days before it was awarded a 200 million pound contract to supply PPE, which turned out to be so defective that it had to be rejected for use immediately. Yet she and her family siphoned off nearly 30 million into a secret offshore account as a reward for this failure, all of it ultimately no questions asked taxpayers' money. It all looks pretty fraudulent to me. Maybe the authorities should be investigating this to see if there is a case to answer?

If 12 and a half years of Tory government has brought us to this, we as a nation and people simply cannot afford much more of them.

I do not believe they delivered anything but what was agreed. You get all the proof online, like photographs, and even detailed descriptions and pictures of the packaging. It is 99% likely to be the fault of the one placing the order.
One thing i do know is the NHS people declared that the KN95 standard was insufficient to rate it as N95, which is the European standard for masks that remove 95% of particulates from the air. N95 was standard issue in hospitals where there was high exposure. In fact the NHS were using the surgical masks which were next to useless and dumping the KN95s, which was plain idiotic and further suggests a fraud incentive. The more orders placed the more coin in the politician's pocket eh?

Entrepreneurs seeing a business opportunity is hardly a news story.
Unless you really want to have a morality police that decides who can make a profit lol.
The only thing that matters is did they commit a crime, or if we think they acted against the spirit of law then tighten the law up.

The crime, if any, would be the collusion between the one authorising the public funds and the one ordering the product and taking a cut. Such a crime requires proof of intent to defraud the taxpayer. I believe the police are checking the messages sent. They can do stuff like confiscate computers where even if you deleted a message typed it could still be recoverable from the drive.

And even if she did setting up a company is not a fraudulent action. To prove fraud you would have to show some sort of collusion between the company and the Civil Servents in the NHS who issued the contract. The defective product is a different issue and on that should have been found before it was paid for, or the NHS can take court action to reclaim the money in the same way as anyone is sold defective products.

People leave their brains at the door when they desperately want to believe something.
Companies are set up all the time when a new contract is sought / signed, it is the obvious thing to do to limit the liability and protest the rest of your business interests.
Mones is a glamourous figure that made her name selling lingerie, the press love to print stories about her because she ticks so many boxes.
Maybe will see her in handcuffs, but I doubt it, because many of these "corruption" stories are just the media playing to their readership / viewers. It is amazing how people can see how the right-wing media plays people, but they are so blind to it happening in the left-media too lol.
