Services at six airports will be disrupted over the Christmas period: Birmingham, Gatwick, Cardiff, Glasgow, London Heathrow (Terminals 2-5) and Manchester airports. My sister-in-law called in a panic early this am saying her Ryanair flight on the 23rd has been cancelled.
The strikes have been called by the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union, the organisation which is the main financial supporter of the judicial review of the government's Rwanda policy.
Newhaven port will also be affected but services at Dover will be running as normal so no migrant crossings will be impacted (phew!).
Highlights where the priorities of the PCS Union and its members really lie - certainly not in the interests of the long-suffering British public. Dishi should do a Ronnie Reagan and sack the lot of them but we all know that's never going to happen

No idea. Britain seems to be reverting to the dark days of the 1970s when somebody was on strike every day of the year.
Strikes me that employees of organisations that provide vital public services ought to be prohibited from striking, as are civil servants (Beamten) in Germany.

But the quid pro-quo should be that they have independent and binding pay reviews - as they do in Germany.

Problem is that public sector pay has been supressed for a decade. Now the cost of living crisis has exacerbated the problem and the government haven't got a solution.
You can only suppress people so long before they retaliate.

I don't know about that, but the main reason why Beamten are prohibited from striking is that their terms of employment are vastly superior to similarly qualified workers in the private sector. Not just pay, but also pension entitlement, job security, holidays, fringe benefits like enhanced medical care, childcare and so on.
Not so very different to public-sector workers in the UK in fact.

Strikes me that employees of organisations that provide vital public services ought to be prohibited from striking, as are civil servants ( Beamten) in Germany. I would go further. If you agree to work for the government, you can either work and get paid, or go home and find something else to do with your time. You don't get to 'negotiate' more money from taxpayers, who aren't, of course, party to any negotiation. Using the same reasoning - there should be no such things as civil service unions. Civil service employment terms are decided democratically by electing a government.

Why are they going on strike is it pay and work conditions? Time off for Christmas. Oh and to destroy Christmas for others hoping to see loved ones for the first time since before Covid.

If the press had not announced it would anyone notice ? Depends if you have kids abroad who were coming to see you for Christmas. I guess if you weren't you might not notice or care.
