Yes, the government will be able to ignore the strike just as it routinely ignores the complaints of any members of the public who are affected by disputes between the government and public-sector employees.
You would think that the Union leaders would be smart enough to understand that action that directly impacts the government is far more likely to achieve the desired result than targeting the public, who governments don't care about anyway.
Rather than targeting airports they would be better off striking at Dover and other ports through which illegal migrant traffic is channeled. That way the government will feel immediate pain rather than just a few angry headlines.
But the Union would never pursue that option since it is opposition to their ideology.

By doing this, they would striking at one of the central pillars of unofficial UK government policy and also garner the sympathy of most of the UK public I could see the whole situation being quickly escalated to a national (if not international) emergency until the people trafficking flows are restored. They could charge what they wanted. No price is too high.

If the press had not announced it would anyone notice ? Depends if you have kids abroad who were coming to see you for Christmas. I guess if you weren't you might not notice or care. Wrong guess, I was being factious if your kids are travelling as they have valid British passports there should be no trouble of them getting in , as I understand it the Army is being trained to help out, unless of course the Airport or Ferry Port is closed due to the strikes

The army has arrived to take up the slack at some ports, they are on even less than the border staff.

The queues for UK passport holders at Stansted are anything from 15 minutes to two hours and that's with staff working. So planes delayed, flights cancelled, trips cancelled is my guess.

Well lucky you. We travel 4 or 5 times a year and we were already seeing delays at the EU end as we're shuttle bussed off to the undesirable aliens part of the airport Now we will be looking at longer delays coming back as well.

ZG, get with the programme. Get in a dingy or small boat in the war torn country of France, half an hour later the RNLI or Border Force will be wrapping you in blankets issuing you with a mobile phone and ushering you to a free four star hotel. Airports are so yesterday.
