If people wanted to pay higher taxes (they don't) they would not have voted for a party that had this in their manifesto. 'Labour will not increase taxes on working people, which is why we will not increase national insurance, the basic, higher, or additional rates of income tax, or VAT.'
What is popular is the idea that someone else should pay higher taxes... But not the super rich apparently who remain untouched. Instead it’s business again which gets the bum deal. Employers NI going up and ever increasing minimum wage. When pensioners were getting a bum deal ( they still might get more) it was fine .

eh? labour picked up barely ten per cent of people who voted tory in 2019. almost as many tory 2019 voters switched to the liberals , while more than double went to reform uk. Labour didnt fall into place because they wooed 2019 tory voters . Lets not forget how many 2017 labour voters deserted labour because of starmers anti brexit stance which forced corbyns hand in the 2019 election. yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/49978-how-britain-voted-in-the-2024-general-election It would be easier on readers of you just paid a visit to Specsavers LOL I didn't mean Tories moved to Labour. I meant they felt free to abandon the Tories and splinter without fear that this would allow Corbyn to get elected.

By the end of this government there'll be more than a "Slide" to the right: Any successor government is necessarily going to be further right than any before. If we don't have an actual Far Right by then. A LOT of people (not necessarily on here) stated quite openly that "what this country needed was a Labour Government because the people who knew how truly fucking awful life under one can be are rapidly dying off and it's time the electorate got a reminder" Well, they got their wish didn't they... Yep. They say that every generation needs to learn the lesson of voting Labour. Well this one's going to.

Dont come whinging to me - you voted for this shower They were the lesser evil. They're the worst government this country has ever seen, which probably suits you. After all, you even told us on here some time back that Starmer will drag us back into the EU and nobody will question it.

I may fall into this category. I didn't vote Labour but i did take my hands of the wheel to let the cards 'fall as they may'. I felt a bit like Tyler Durden and spent the rest of the day playing golf on the M6

I meant they felt free to abandon the Tories and splinter without fear that this would allow Corbyn to get elected. you didnt. You were implying starmer is better than corbyn , (he isnt neither in terms of being a proper labour leader , nor in terms of voters support where in both elections in 17 and 19 , he trounced starmer in terms of voters turning out to vote for him)and suggesting this was why tories moved over to labour. ive addressed this earlier with my you gov link. Here's exactly what you wrote in reply to vinnys post about labour leaders , which is the context.... Labour didnt fall into place because of tory support , or corbyn no longer being there , or any other such bollocks. They fell into place purely and simply off the back of a dodgy out of date electoral system that is no longer fit for purpose. For starmer and his cronies , thats good. The bad side is 80% of the electorate dont support them , and will be baying for blood every time labour make a move in government. Reap what you fucking sow I say............

The knots they tie themselves in trying to spin starmer and labours popularity , or at least "appeal" (to tory voters or snp voters) is fucking laughable of the most deluded kind. I really want to know what deludamol tablets these folk are on . We are in for a fucking shit show for the next five years , and I can honestly see riots and civil disobedience breaking out pretty soon , with the lack of public support these labour clowns have. The tories and snp governments pissed off their voting base .That voting base did not under any circumstances go en masse to labour to put them into power. How Labour thought they could govern without any popular mandate is beyond me , and I suspect most others ,who are not smoking the same drugs the brothers and sisters are taking.

What's delusinal is to deny the fact that Labour attracted more votes than any other political party, in England, in Scotland and in Wales, and that is why they are now the governing party with a large majority.
The Conservative Party was reduced to 121 seats on a vote share of 23.7%, the worst result in its history.
In Scotland the Scottish National Party was reduced from forty-eight seats to nine and lost its status as the third-largest party in the Commons.
The main cause of this unusual result in England and Wales was the fact that instead of three major political parties, we had four, and Reform UK distorted the final result by ataining more votes than the Lib Dems. In Scotland I guess too many people believe that the SNP are a divided party and corrupt and returned back to Labour.
Yes - the result is unusual, but it was a fair win for Labour under the system we have got, the bottom line is that more people voted Labour than Tory, its that simple.
