I agree. In the late 1980s the seeds for a centre left Labour Party were made available leading to Labour's most successful period in office.

And what problems do we have at the moment that aren't also problems in other countries? Silly answer. The state of other countries is neither here nor there. Not a silly answer at all Clearly you want to ignore the fact the USA who have a bit of a track record about going to war to secure their energy supplies (ask sassan hussein how his deal to run a pipeline from tikrit went - oh how silly of me, he’s dead, killed by a spot of regime change) have for a while now been taking measures to increase the worth of the dollar against other currencies which includes the euro as well as the pound But the (us based) charlatans who decide what a country is worth based solely on its willingness to let its people starve to repay its sovereign debt are the problem. Now I admit Kwarteng should have a better grasp on history. He should know what happened to the party and the chancellor last time they tried playing chicken with George Soros. Do it’s down to him that the party are in the state they are. But Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Greece and even the mighty (and now shouldering all the payments to the EU we used to) Germany are hardly in the best of health. Are they

Oh dear, an unacknowledged private loan, with no intention of defrauding anyone. How awful.

Liz Truss really is a case of her own but can you really call any current leader of any country competent and strong?

Oh dear, an unacknowledged private loan, with no intention of defrauding anyone. How awful. No. A declaration made with the intent of getting a mortgage that failed to disclose the amount of another loan. Fraud. For which the paymaster general who provided those funds was sacked, and the utter arsehole dawn primarolo got the job in his place.

Don’t hear too many voices against him at presidents questions. A few dogs in the background salivating perhaps

"Truss - last thing country needs is an election"...
To paraphrase another lady who was involved in a political scandal many moons ago, "Well she would say that, wouldn't she." Given that she can only hope to retain the Premiership by avoiding an election and praying her own don't turf her out beforehand.
I think she has not only made herself unelectable but I wonder if she will ever hold even a Ministerial position in the near or distant future.

Fraud with a very small f. So how much did he intend to STEAL with no intention of repayment ? Was he prosecuted for attempting to steal money from the mortgage company ?
In reality I think more Stupid than criminal. But I fully expect his detractors to make the most of it.

The point is he made a false declaration that he was applying for the loan free of other liabilities.
