Just Stop Oil soup throwers ‘are daring iconoclasts, not criminals'. Art experts call for activists who attacked Van Gogh’s Sunflowers to be spared jail. The Just Stop Oil protesters who threw soup on a Van Gogh painting are daring iconoclasts, not criminals, art experts have claimed. More than 100 artists, curators and art historians are pleading for two climate activists who defaced Van Gogh’s Sunflowers to be spared jail. The painting itself was not damaged during the attack at London’s National Gallery in Oct 2022, but the frame surrounding it was. Phoebe Plummer and Anna Holland, both 22, will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Friday after being found guilty of criminal damage during the demonstration. Judge Hehir told the pair to be “prepared in practical and emotional terms to go to prison”. However, artists including Fiona Banner, Peter Kennard and Love Ssega, the actor Juliet Stevenson, as well as arts academics from Essex, Goldsmiths, Queen Mary, New York and Copenhagen universities, claimed the act was in keeping with the ethos of the arts. linkLOL hilarious. Lefty artists and academics say criminal damage is in keeping with the ethos of the arts. Pillocks. As far as sentencing is concerned, I'm not a harsh man, I'm not calling for ridiculously long sentences. But lets put things in perspective. Some chap was recently sentenced to three years in prison for punching a police officers shield, which caused no damage. So on that basis, I'd say five years a piece should be sufficient punishment for these two entitled left wing vandals, and hopefully serve as a suitable deterrent to like minded left wing vandals.

Ok
Interesting little chat about this on GB News with Jacob Rees Mogg
The artists are comparing these destroyers of priceless art with Dadaists who wanted to create art. One of Moggs guests gave that short shift indeed
The JSO spokeswanker in the studio tried to push the agenda that no act of nonviolent protest should end in a prison sentence
I consider vandalism an act of violence against the artifact.
But I want these scum destroyed financially, economically, and politically
Sadly Labour give peerages and positions on the Privy Counsel to organisers of murdering terrorists and murdering political campaigners.
So not much chance of proper justice under Two Tier Starmer

So not much chance of proper justice under Two Tier Starmer Yes I watched it, and I thought the JSO spokesman was at best, unconvincing. Because protest is nonviolent does not mean there are no consequences. Blocking roads is nonviolent but costs £millions to police and to the economy, that cost should be reflected in the punishment. And these two entitled lefties should in my honest opinion be sentenced to a minimum of 12 months apiece. Which lets face it, under this government will equate to about two weeks in prison before being released on licence.

Maybe, I hope not but we'll see. I am heartened by the fact the judge has told them to prepare themselves for custodial sentences.

Phoebe Plummer got 2 years plus another 3 months for something else, her mate got 20 months, I saw Phoebe being interviewed by Jacob Rees Mogg early this year, she displayed the naivety of youth coupled with the zealous insanity of the JSO mob, she obviously had recieved a good education and now she is about to learn a little bit more about life in the next two years, I suspect that the environment may not be her greatest concern in the near future, she will be too busy avoiding being shagged by some monster lezzie, poor child.

Excellent, and even though they will only serve 40% of their sentences in custody, I'm pleased they were jailed. But it didn’t take long for the eco-zealots to strike again did it. Just minutes after Just Stop Oil activists Phoebe Plummer and Anna Holland were jailed for throwing Heinz tomato soup over Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, a trio of JSO protestors have again targeted the artist’s work at the National Gallery. How very tiresome… Hopefully this trio of deluded lefties will get even longer sentences. www.spectator.co.uk/article/jso-protestors-jailed-for-covering-van-goghs-sunflowers-in-soup/

Apparently within a short time of the sentences two more activists threw more soup on the same painting by Van Gough

If they are going to be sent to prison, then I'm all for them chucking soup. Heinz must be thrilled. Advertising like this normally costs a fortune.

Should really have 'souped' one of Andy Warhol's paintings. An opportunity missed there I feel. The irony feedback loop could power a major city.

The frame was bought to house the painting which is valued at £72 million cost thousands of pounds ( where are you going to get another one ), the damage to the frame cost £10,000 to repair not an excessive sentence was a message to others don't do it IMO
