Civilians must be ready to fight because Britain’s military is too small, a House of Lords committee has warned. The Armed Forces “lack the mass, resilience, and internal coherence necessary to maintain a deterrent effect and respond effectively to prolonged and high-intensity warfare”, a damning report by the Lords international relations and defence committee found. The report said all evidence it had heard “points to the current size of the British Army being inadequate” and questioned “whether the British Army is prepared to meet the growing threat posed by Russia to European security”. It comes after The Telegraph revealed that Gen Sir Patrick Sanders, the former head of the Army, warned that the British public 'would' be called up to fight in the event of war because the military was too small. linkCalling up civilians to fight is a futile gesture for two reasons: 1) A large percentage of them will say get stuffed I'd sooner go to prison. 2) Without proper training civilians will rapidly become casualties corpses and a massive drain on resources. This is a big problem, but it is not a insurmountable problem if the government are prepared to: 1) Significantly increase the defence budget. 2) Increase the number of regular combat ready troops to a least 150,000 (More than doubling current numbers) 3) Woke and diversity within the armed forces must and with a sense or urgency be scrapped. It will take a few years to get the British armed forces back to an acceptable state of preparedness, but all journeys have to start with the first step.

Many countries across the globe promote shooting clubs for training future marksmen and snipers but that has been on the decline in the UK for years and you can bet your bottom dollar it will go deeper into decline now steamer is at the helm...

In my opinion, the government should be promoting patriotism, patriotic people fight for their country. Sadly the current political trend is to rubbish Great Briton and promote woke which is the complete antithesis of patriotism. And a picky point perhaps but I cant help mentioning it because most people are unaware of it, you may not be one of them, but there's a world of difference between a marksman and a sniper. They're completely different, however I understand the gist of your point.

Yes I do know the difference red...There is much more to a snipers trade than just pulling a trigger... Indeed there is. You could become a marksman after as little as one day on the range, but the snipers course was three months long. Probably not three months today. Testament to the fact that standards have gone to ratshit.

looking around at what the country has become I'm not convinced I would put myself forward again to fight.

Will we be able to WFH if we sign up Red? I can see a lot of fire drills if that is the case...

..for what? looking around at what the country has become I'm not convinced I would put myself forward again to fight. Good point. I'm not entirely sure what this thread is getting at. We didn't have 'adequate' military force defending these shores when Boudicca met a grisly end and I doubt it's been any better since. Our history is littered with wreckage of conflictbgone wrong Who am I being asked to prepare to fight, and where, and why. The OP hinted at Putin. That I would pay to watch. When I began my career finding better ways for Maggie's army to kill people and avoid being bio-warfare cannon fodder we were prepared to turn lots of west Germany into molten radioactive slag to hinder East German tanks ... These days I suspect bioweapons would be the order of the day and the Geneva conventions can take a hike ....

Douglas Murray has being saying this for years, but for different reasons, and due to governments after governments letting their people down with mass immigration and the cultural suicide that comes with it.
