English identity is under threat from mass migration and woke ideology, Robert Jenrick has said. The frontrunner in the Tory leadership contest warned that the nation’s ties are becoming frayed by a “huge number of people arriving over a short period of time”, while “lofty” elites “repudiate our inheritance” with claims that the country has a “uniquely evil past”. Writing for the Daily Mail, Mr Jenrick, a former immigration minister, said English people should be proud of their heritage, rather than being made to feel ashamed by the “metropolitan establishment”. He said “a nation should put its own citizens first” but claimed that this “isn’t always happening” in Britain, with the “depth of anger” among ordinary people consistently underestimated in Westminster. www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/09/20/english-identity-under-threat-from-migration-robert-jenrick/Firstly I have to say that I completely agree with Robert Jenrick, well said. But I have my concerns over his motives. Jenrick has always been a Tory centrist, he has never mentioned anything about the loss of English identity before. As immigration minister he had every opportunity to reduce mass immigration, but he didn't. Now he wants to be party leader he claims to be a centre right Conservative who will reduce immigration. I don't mind telling you, I have my doubts.

What is 'English identity'? Before mass immigration and the cult of multiculturalism that would have been easy to answer ….so that’s a win for lefties .

What is 'English identity'? It could be described as being the same as any identity, take the same parameters the Welsh use, the Scots, the Irish and any country in the world and they know who they are in the main.

What is 'English identity'? It's the classic question, 'what is English identity'. The thing is no one ever asks what Welsh or Scottish identity is, that would be racist, and can you even imagine anyone asking what Jamaican or Somalian identity is! My god the howls of derision, the screams of racist, bigot and far right would be heard from the river to the sea. But it's perfectly acceptable, in England, for anyone to ask what is English identity. This is because the English are the biggest minority in this country.

Here is a good test
When the Labour party arrests and interns the English in camps, would you be among those arrested?

Well the Scots, Irish and, to a lessor extent, the Welsh all seem to base their ideas of national identity on hatred of the English..

Past success brings envy and resentment same with Europe, they nearly all had colonies but were nowhere near as successful as us so they hate us for it. Meanwhile we have the self haters who want to change and bury history and to self flagellate whilst offering all and sundry compensation,if anything they’re the worst……the enemy within.

Well then roll with that the English tend to not like foreigners, the French do not like the Germans, the Bulgarians do not like the Russians and boost it by not liking the Turks as well, the Serbs do not like most others, the Arabs do not like the Jews and on we go.

I'm not convinced that is true. We might like taking the piss out of foreigners but that is a show of affection, the amount of foreigners we have embraced into the UK and integrated into our society (far more than any other country in Europe) surely shows that foreigners are more than welcome.

Well I assumed your comment was slightly tongue in cheek as being Scottish I know that hatred of the English is not the sole national identifying attribute. The English tend to tolerate foreigners which is not the same as liking them and of course I am speaking in a generalised fashion and stereotyping but then what else is there if we start off in that vein. Identity is attached to ethnicity and culture in many ways and is a complicated belief system not easily defined but real. My point was everyone knows who they are and if one accepts an Indian identity as existing then consider the same parameters that brought one to that conclusion and apply it to any other identity.

Was it John Major who said being English was about warm beer and old ladies cycling along country lanes to Evensong? Or something like that.
Found the original:
"Fifty years from now Britain will still be the country of long shadows on county grounds, warm beer, invincible green suburbs, dog lovers and pools fillers and - as George Orwell said - “old maids bicycling to Holy Communion through the morning mist” and if we get our way - Shakespeare still read even in school."

Major was harking back to the English Idyllists like Morton, Parker, Harper, Belloc, and latterly Betjeman and even Hargreaves where mists and mellow fruitfulness and Adlestrop conjure up images that were at best fleeting and in many instances gone for good. All of whom aided and abetted in their destruction, if unwittingly, with Major being very active in that role. When one allows a vast influx into England of different peoples then they do not become English most especially if many actually hate the English. Many things specifically English are being downgraded as we speak with the trip to Holy Communion in the morning mist vying with the Muslim call to prayer.
