The Ryzen CPU is an AMD product so not something designed and engineered in Shenzen. You can certainly get a NUC-type mini PC with a Ryzen chip if that's what you want. You don't have to go all the way to China to buy one. In fact the only reason to do so is if it's cheaper than anywhere else. All this waffle about superior 'Chinese tech' is complete bollocks. It's the best value for money. I'm a capitalist, not a conman. I can't just go and rip my clients off and then spunk money on D & G to look like Posh Spice. In capitalism all things are sort to be optimised with the better faster cheaper motif. You are of the 'no one gets fired for buying IBM' generation. AMD is designed in the states, the wafers are fabricated by TSMC and some stages of the assembly is in China. TSMC and the states have been building fabrication plants in the USA, which AMD and Nvidia will be using. Assembly could all end up in the states within years. At this rate China isn't really much competition in this area long term, unless they get big on R&D and work within patent laws. They need to be more innovative.

The problem with China is the trust issue - all the tech developed in China by Chinese firms is open to spying by the Chinese government, that is why many countries and businesses restrict their use.

So if what Beelink are doing is so damn easy, why don't we see better faster cheaper than it here? The Brits are all hot air and no substance, thinking as long as we can find fault with the other lot then we can maintain our imagined superiority. That's how I read between the lines of you repeat to me. The fact is I owe nothing to any of these firms. I'm just as happy to buy one made in Britain as made in China, but I look at the prices and see many are paying double and hardly getting anything that would be any real improvement. This just fits my requirements nicely and it is a well balanced design. You can usually be assured of high quality manufacture in China these days. They are pretty rich now and use the latest top spec machines to build these things. Our lot spend most of their technical resources on working out more efficient ways to kill larger numbers of people. I regard that as evil. I would not buy from India though. They are cowboys. They have no care in the quality of their work.

You got to be fucking kidding . You really are not that important! The Chinese government are well informed because they talk to a lot of countries and have good relations with them. They don't need to watch what you are doing in your office. The US does that with Echelon and has been for years. You get mixed up. China has figured out a way to get ahead legitimately. You should listen to some of their professors and they will tell you how they do is as it is no secret. Basically is is a lot of cash pumped into R & D. This is now paying a dividend which they can use to do even more R & D. It's as technology race. If it is already invented they are happy to licence the tech. They spend a lot of money on licencing, and a lot goes to the US.

If so, what would the Chinese hope to achieve? They are too busy getting on with their own work.

Are you daft? - Chinese industrial espionage has been a problem for decades. s. Has it? Or is it just reported a lot. They don't need to. If they want the technology they buy the firm. They bought Germany's leading robotics firm because they wanted to go into robotics. Once they have bought the firm they are the new owners of all the patents, and in China there is a term known as a patent troll. They see it as bad manners so a lot of patent holders are OK if other firms want to use their patent. They just don't want to be sued for infringing the rights of others.

I'm unsure what "The Brits" have to do with any of this, and your claim that I have an imagined superiority is unfounded. I can say Americans stole British technology in the past and I doubt anyone on here will suffer from a mental breakdown over it.

I'm not indifferent. I've got skin in the game. I just placed an order to some Chinese shops. Lets run a little comparison.
My order:
Total cost ~£10 and free postage to my door.
I ordered 5 items, so I will give you the price I paid (not including VAT) and the price of what you would pay in a British shop. I'll try and match like for like.
4 way USB3 hub
I paid £1.70 + Vat, Tesco £15 (slight difference as this is one USB C and 3 standard vs 4 standard)
0ne razor head and ten heads in a packet with about 6 blades on each head.
I paid £1.70 + Vat, Tesco £24 (Gillette Fusion 5 Men's Razor Blades Refills 8 Pack)
1.5m shower hose
I paid £1.98 + vat, Tesco £10 (for a 1.75m one)
2 x 30cm IEC splitter cable
I paid £2.46 + vat each, Tesco does not do it, so you would need to order that online anyway where prices vary but Kenable (British online suppler) has then for 6.65 each + 2.94 postage.
So lets add that up then if we had to rely on our own firms.
Total 65.24 or 650% more.
