Keir Starmer Removes Labour Whip From 7 MPs Who Rebelled Over Two Child Benefit Cap. Prime Minister Kier Starmer has removed the Labour whip from seven MPs who defied him to vote for an opposition amendment calling for the two child benefit cap to be scrapped. The new Labour Government experienced its first minor rebellion since being elected on 4 July after the Scottish National Party and the Liberal Democrats forced a House of Commons vote on abolishing the two child benefit cap. link
It would seem Starmer, due to his huge majority, is going to stamp on anyone who does not toe the party line. Interesting times ahead methinks...

Seven Labour MP's sacked and not an utterance from lefties! I wonder why? Ahh, you obviously don't want to be accused of racism/Islamophobia.
The seven are : Apsana Begum, Richard Burgon, Ian Byrne, Imran Hussain, Rebecca Long-Bailey, John McDonnell and Zarah Sultana.
It seems Starmer is comming down on the lefties. Angela will not be impressed...

Could it be they decide to team up with Corbyn and form Momentum as a party inside Parliament.

You'll notice the seven MPs are all ideologues, and the SNP/Lib Dem motion was unrealistic. Expect to see the removal of the 2-child cap in the Autumn budget statement.

After that will come the unions. They’ll likely push and threaten now there’s a Labour government. In these first few months, Starmer has to weigh strength v seats, and convince all claimants that raising taxes, increasing borrowing, cutting benefits and welfare are not viable options for regaining long-term economic health…

The SNP are opportunists
They knew fine well what the Labour position was when they set out to cause cracks in the Labour Party, and they knew very well that they would fail.
The position of the Labour Party was crystal clear BEFORE the general election, and remains the same - the 2 Child lock will be abandonded when finances will allow for it, but that it will stay in place for now.
Next week we expect Rachel Reeves to announce a date for a Budget, probably in September, whether any move on the 2 Child lock comes then, we will have to see. The problem is that there are so many departmens and areas which desparately need funds.

I imagine that Starmer intends to get all the unpopular legislation out of the way as soon as possible and then spend the rest of his premiership buttering up the electorate.
He might be in with a chance. Seven rebels is pretty small beer considering the size of his majority and the economy is expected to pick up in the year, so Sir Stodge looks set to tick over happily for most of his term

Give it six months, give it until the autumn when people realise they cant afford to heat their homes, yet Milliband and Starmer are insisting that drilling for oil & gas must stop as they cover the countryside with wind turbines. Come October November the wheels are going to come off this net zero mad government very quickly.
