Which will be followed by a huge drop in money invested in private pension schemes and more government sounding further down the line . This is like Groundhog Day . Private pensions do not equate to wealth. ..print that sentence out and put it above your bed.

If they do that means that they have managed to work hard and save it and put it into a private pension fund ( ie not spend it ) they will also be subject income tax and will not receive ‘ benefits’ . You are suffering from the politics of envy , a common condition amount lefties .

If they have paid their NI then they should have it . If you insist that NI is just another tax then as high earners they would of paid more tax. Stop trying to steal money from pensioners and find another hobby horse .

Please don't swear at me I wouldn't dare swear at you. Ok you want a less visceral reply then you shall have it For the past 50 years I have been served a notice that I owe the tax man a certain amount of money and the national insurance man a different amount of money. The collection of national insurance started at a lower level than tax. In addition to my own income being raided on the strict understanding I was getting something for it from the age of 65 my employer at every step along the way has been screwed even harder for the privilege of employing me, the degree of that screwing being felt properly only by those who run limited companies with staff, as I have done, who get to see up close and personal the size of the theft. To suggest that those who have been systematically robbed in this way should be deprived of the pittance the robbery pays back is highly offensive. It is on a par with taxpayers who have paid all their lives into a fund to provide the hospice care in the last three months of their lives only to see their hospice bed handed to some health tourist who hadn’t paid a penny into the system they came here to milk. There you are. Not one word outside the Oxford English children’s dictionary The problem is some people think I am wrong. Oh yes one more thing. Almost two years ago without mandate, warning or other notice and flying directly in the face of statements made to the contrary a certain less than honourable piece of excrement now sitting in number 10 Downing Street pulled a stunt whereby the state pension that I should have started to be handed eight weeks ago was stolen from me for another year, a stunt that also deprived me of privately amassed savings in a certain health fund which is configured to pay me a tax free lump sum on my attainment of state retirement age. So I have already been mugged twice.

Why are you incessantly going on about people who paid into private pension schemes. Many of them worked there butts off and had to give up things that others took for granted. There are other threads on here that could have accommodated your latest whinge and you'd make a saint swear. There are thousands of pensioners who had their pension funds raided by someone who is probably your hero, the affected people had their private pension reduced by 50% and more. If you ran a taxi business, you were a fool not to arrange a private pension....or perhaps you did.

Fuck off. I had that money stolen from me in expectation of getting a pension. Do it now to those getting a pension in 50 years time if you like - no, just fuck if with the whole idea. National Insurance pays for a load of interrupted employment related income issues. It is not collecting money to put into your personal retirement fund. It is, however, a tax levied on employer and employee and, as such it can be modified and altered as situation demands. The counting of the number of years paying NI is needed to show benefit recipients are entitled to claim state pension for the remainder of their lives. The amount, and when, is Treasury reckoning. The screwed up notion that because you’re no longer able to draw a state pension at the age you reckon you signed up to amounts to theft, is as much bollux as saying rises in fuel duty, income tax, vat, etc, is theft. If you want to retire early, make arrangements and take out a private pension. You get tax relief on what you pay in, and can draw 25% out tax free after the age of 55. Seems a reasonable scheme to me — until (like some European countries) the state takes over and administers all pension and retirement benefits so that there are limited opportunities for private pension arrangements…
