What made up lies? Suggest you read Directive (EU) 2016/2370 - Directive 2004/51/EC and Directive 2007/58/EC. All of which map out the process over the years to introduce competition into the rail industry. ....but nothing in there that stops you having a nationalised rail industry despite the squeals from brexiters to the contrary , many of whom are right wing tories who dont like nationalisation anyway?
I tel you pacifico , there are many arguments for and against the EU. This one isnt one of them , and is nothing more than a complete red herring.
I'll just repeat what I said 3 days ago.. there is nothing stopping you having a nationalised rail company - but what you cannot do is fail to allow competition

SIX in 10 voters would back Yes if they were convinced an independent Scotland will deliver higher pensions and an economy based on the health and happiness of its citizens, a new poll has revealed. The survey shows the importance of setting out a positive economic case for leaving the UK, ahead of the Scottish Government unveiling a paper outlining its approach tomorrow as part of its new prospectus on independence. That is not hard as the Uk has the worst pension in the developed world at 29% of average earnings. The SNP have promised it would rise to the European avereage. around £225 per week. That means 61% of Scottish voters would vote yes. www.thenational.scot/news/23052240.wellbeing-case-puts-scottish-independence-vote-61-bombshell-poll-fin If they believe it. I've missed something, i cannot see that table in your article...........

If the people of Scotland are told the 'real truth' about what comes with Independence, and it real terms what they'll gain and what they'll lose, take it from me they wont touch it with a bargepole

Not sure how this would work - if you are only going to have 2 border checkpoints why any at all? Nicola Sturgeon’s plan for a border between an independent Scotland and England has been labelled a “smugglers’ charter” after it emerged that check points would be installed on only two of its 25 crossings.
The first minister’s economic prospectus for a new state has conceded that checks would be required on goods heading between the two countries.
It said that physical examinations “would likely only be undertaken on the two main trunk routes between England and Scotland or at rail freight terminals”. Sturgeon confirmed the roads would be the A74(M) and the A1.
Membership of the European Union — one of the Scottish government’s key arguments for independence — has been highlighted as a key economic benefit of leaving the UK.
Sturgeon has conceded that entry to the EU would not be possible until Scotland had control both of its monetary policy and currency. She was unable to say how long it would take to rejoin the EU but hoped it would be less than five years, adding that it should not be a “particularly lengthy process”.
The first minister’s prediction runs contrary to her own Sustainable Growth Commission which estimated that a new currency could not be established until “towards the end of the first decade following a successful independence vote”.
Sturgeon said negotiations for access to the EU could progress during the transition phase to a new currency but membership would not be possible until it had introduced the Scottish pound.

That magic word in the headline again: "Could". Not much chance of it though is there? Scotland could have its own CURRENCY in five years: Nicola Sturgeon promises 'Scottish pound' and no passports to visit England with her independence bid - but admits there will be border checks Nicola Sturgeon claims UK economy 'is in long-term decline' in press conference Scottish First Minister sets out new proposals as part of her independence push SNP leader claims country would have Scottish pound after breaking up UK www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11323775/Sturgeon-claims-UK-long-term-decline-says-independent-Scotland-currency.html

What does she mean: "No passports to visit England"? That's not within her gift. And if you're a Jock working in England...? Well, good luck with that.

The point though pacifico...........the point.....
Renationalising Britain’s railways – EU law not a barrier
with the state of Truss , the tories looking lamentable , the whole brexiter fearmongering is looking pretty laughable now wouldnt you say? Its going to take more than "competition " fearmongering to save dads army now i would say.
If the uk doesnt split soon , and its a question of when not if , then Starmer is going to sign on the dotted line behind the bike sheds and take you back in the EU competition or no competition. At the rate you are going pacifico , i reckon the euro is looking a better bet than the pound , not to mention free movement and all the rest.

Thanks for your spirited and factual defence of the argument, Thomas. You provide good info as well - info that I wasn't aware of in some cases. This letter is off-topic but I can't be bothered to file it into the right thread (Von Lotsov's SNP Ref thread? hmm..).

I know you are Scottish but I speak English so I shall repeat (yet again) what I said 3 days ago.. "there is nothing stopping you having a nationalised rail company - but what you cannot do is fail to allow competition"
Wittering mindlessly on about what you reckon the euro is does not change that basic fact.
