andrewbrown Fairsociety states his non Right wing case on this issue, a view he is of course entitled to hold. But as Andrew indicates Free Market advocates rejoice in poorer home owners on Merseyside teaming up with innovative enterprises such as Airbnb to enjoy the financial fruits that derive from stepping in to provide some of the accommodation capacity that the city's big providers can't cope with. Why should the law come in and clobber the small homeowner in such cases, their home should be their castle, and their decision alone as to who can use it and at what cost. The alternative being that hotel chains & B&B's would be able to demand even higher prices if Airbnb didn't exist ...... they've come into existence and thrived because there is a demand and people are willing to pay. Do you value the 750 quid or the accommodation more ? If you value the cash more, then keep it in your pocket. If you value the accommodation more then enter into the free consensual exchange. If you want something cheaper stay in Skelmersdale and drive in, or catch the bus on the day of the concert. For your information Liverpool is a staunch Labour run lefty City Council, I don't see them stepping in and condemning this Airbnb practice, the lefty run Liverpool Council will be rubbing their dirty filthy grubby hands wondering how they can stiff Taylor Swift fans, starting with carparking fees, and I bet they have been given FREE tickets to the gig, you lefties really are naive, the lefty Liverpool City Council are the biggest Champagne socialists on the planet, of the worst kind.
They don't give a flying fuck for the less well off, they just pretend to care, don't you know that?

Fairsociety Whereas you want there to be a law against it. Admitting you're even more left wing and authoritarian than Liverpool City Council, will come as quite a surprising revelation to Andrew Brown

I don't disagree, but I would have thought as a Conservative you would believe in the free market, rather than trying socialist caps? I don't think you're actually as right wing as you believe. There's hope for you yet. Because I dislike Labour and Starmer that doesn't mean I am a Conservative voter, for the same reason most people feel the same way.
When the day dawns that Labour has a decent leader and a decent set of MPs and policies things might look up for them, I am sure you have seen posts of mine where I have been equally critical of Sunak and the weak Tory government.
If Labour were in government there would be no difference in profiteering, in fact things would probably be worse, more fool you if you think otherwise.
Apologies, I didn't mean Conservative as in the party, I meant conservative as in right wing economics. Unfortunately my autocorrect changed the c to a capital letter and I didn't bother to correct it. Apologies for the misunderstanding.

The retail parks have basically killed off the high street, and the greedy Labour run Councils with their excessive parking charges, most retail parks don't charge for parking, tell you what andrea, I'll have a bet with you, visit two random retail parks today, and I will guarantee you wont get a parking space, because 'there's no money around' .... LOL Rip-off Britain hits punters in the pocket: How hardworking families are being squeezed for every pound from £9.50 pints at the darts, £8 festival chips, £125 Nike England shirts and £678 Premier Inn rooms for Taylor Swift.....
Whether you're a lover of darts, a football phenetic or a dedicated Taylor Swift fan, you may have fallen victim to 'disgusting' price hikes sweeping through events across the country.
While the price of a pint has shot up at many major sporting events and left fans raging, others have been hit by the skyrocketing cost of overnight stays, as hotel bosses cash in by raising fees when events are happening nearby.
Taylor Swift fans with tickets to the superstar's sold out Eras Tour have faced trebling hotel costs as bosses raise prices by 200 per cent when the singer is in town.
Meanwhile, football season ticket holders have been hammered by a string of price hikes for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
MailOnline takes a look at some of the ways hardworking Brits are being squeezed for every penny at popular events across the UK.
There is no cost of living crisis its a rip off Britain crisis . We don't have to spend much if we refuse to be ripped off as seen here . I just wouldn't pay these prices . I waited about 5 minutes to get the guys attention at Bournemouth BR station to buy a small bottle of water a couple of weeks ago and he says "thats £2.60" . I mean I only pay £1.50 at the golf club and they are having a laugh . Needless to say it got left on the counter and I had a thirsty journey back to the smoke . I must say though the pint of Hazey Jane IPA went down well at Waterloo (£5.90 which was that good I had another )

The Liverpool lefty run Council are always outraged about something or other, yet not a peep out of them over the Taylor Swift rip off, or can we conclude that a lot of the lefty hypocrites have rental properties within Liverpool and will be making a killing ....... LOL that's more like it.

They were made in the same sweatshop that produces the Nike ones and are identical in every way. I wonder how much Nike purchase theirs for?

The argument is flawed, you are getting mixed up with capitalism and being ripped off, I can guarantee you the lefty run Liverpool City councilors will have rental properties they will be making a killing out of the TS concert, that's your socialism for you, no one wants to be ripped off.

"Councillors in Liverpool have had parking fines cancelled without going through a formal process, an investigation has found. Analysis by the Liverpool Echo found 51 penalty notices issued to elected members were challenged and rescinded between April 2015 and December 2020".
"Former Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson is being investigated for alleged witness intimidation against the council's chief executive, a court has heard".
Details of the allegations against the politician were heard during a hearing at Liverpool High Court.

It is a matter of public record that at the time, Merseyside Police had for many months been conducting an investigation which resulted in a number of arrests made on suspicion of fraud, bribery, corruption and misconduct in public office, both in December 2019 and in September 2020. Further arrests were made on 4 December 2020 in connection with offences of bribery and witness intimidation. This investigation involves a significant connection to Liverpool City Council.
On 7 December 2020, the then Secretary of State met officers from Liverpool City Council at his request and was given a range of assurances about the steps taken to improve governance in the Council. This was followed by a letter sent to Liverpool City Council on 8 December seeking written assurances, including on the steps the Council had taken to improve governance and to ensure that the Council was operating properly and in line with its Best Value Duty. Liverpool City Council submitted their response on 11 December 2020.

Start with Labour run first, they are the ones who are declaring being bankrupt by the day. Yes, but exactly which ones can you show us are "alright" outstanding councils, representing their community? I wasn't asking which ones I thought were doing a good job. County councils can be included if you wish.
