last week we went for a afternoon pub lunch, went to a place where there's never any food or drink offers, it's quite pricey for a meal, carpark choca block, went inside .... sorry there's a two hour waiting time for a table .... WTF this was on a Wednesday afternoon, kids at school, does any fucker work these days? A Sunday carvery down here was around a fiver with a drink thrown in prior covid now it's anywhere from 25 to 30 quid a head and a drink is extra.. Went out for breakfast this morning Dog friendly venue seats 60 give or take Full English , poached eggs on granary , 2 cappuccinos and a dog sausage £26 (Had to prebook a table and it was full)

Can't remember ever not being able to park in a retail park or supermarket car park — maybe we've not found a space near the store, but that's the only inconvenience.
Over the past year places fairly frequently visited by car for shopping have included Tottenham, Bromley*, Farnborough*, Orpington, Sevenoaks*, Dalston, Stoke Newington Kidbrooke, Wood Green*.
Not bad considering there's probably over 40 million road vehicles in the UK — but high costs are probably keeping use down...
* Parking charge.

Why are carparks telling a different story?
Doesn't matter where you go, Supermarkets, retail parks, theme parks, pubs, restaurants, hotels you name it the carparks are RAM PACKED, not just weekends weekdays too, does any one work these days?
Sorry if there was a cost of living crisis these carparks would be empty.
Its Torbay airshow here next week and parking is 25 quid a day while that is on. And a hotel meal for 10 is a grand. Fish and chips are 30 quid a hit and a hired torbay deck chair will cost 25 quid a day... They will go bust. Look at the macro behaviour of a market bubble. The stock price is at its steepest incline just before the 'haircut'.
These bastards think they are onto a good thing, but those are their customers who they treat like dirt. Look at Blackpool and you will see what happens when the customer is no longer a believer in your wares. The customer is always king, no matter what anyone tells you.

Visit any UK airport and it will be heaving, but one thing I will say, a year or two under a Labour government and those same carparks will be empty, along with tumbleweed blowing down the motorways. I was at Heathrow only the other day in fact and what I saw were a lot of people, but they were mostly foreigners. We seem to be getting a lot that look like they are from the Middle East.

Yes, they are using every mode of transport to enter the UK, trains boats planes you name it.
and mainly dinghies.

So which is it? Is everywhere rammed, or are the town centres dying? I'm getting mixed messages from this thread. The retail parks have basically killed off the high street, and the greedy Labour run Councils with their excessive parking charges, most retail parks don't charge for parking, tell you what andrea, I'll have a bet with you, visit two random retail parks today, and I will guarantee you wont get a parking space, because 'there's no money around' .... LOL Rip-off Britain hits punters in the pocket: How hardworking families are being squeezed for every pound from £9.50 pints at the darts, £8 festival chips, £125 Nike England shirts and £678 Premier Inn rooms for Taylor Swift.....
Whether you're a lover of darts, a football phenetic or a dedicated Taylor Swift fan, you may have fallen victim to 'disgusting' price hikes sweeping through events across the country.
While the price of a pint has shot up at many major sporting events and left fans raging, others have been hit by the skyrocketing cost of overnight stays, as hotel bosses cash in by raising fees when events are happening nearby.
Taylor Swift fans with tickets to the superstar's sold out Eras Tour have faced trebling hotel costs as bosses raise prices by 200 per cent when the singer is in town.
Meanwhile, football season ticket holders have been hammered by a string of price hikes for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
MailOnline takes a look at some of the ways hardworking Brits are being squeezed for every penny at popular events across the UK.

Exactly, I've heard that when she performs in Liverpool that Airbnb have hiked accommodation prices, the average Airbnb for a stay in Liverpool when she performs is £750 A NIGHT ....... FFS .... I don't know how they are getting away with it, there must be a law against this sort of profiteering.

I don't disagree, but I would have thought as a Conservative you would believe in the free market, rather than trying socialist caps? I don't think you're actually as right wing as you believe. There's hope for you yet.

When the day dawns that Labour has a decent leader and a decent set of MPs and policies things might look up for them, I am sure you have seen posts of mine where I have been equally critical of Sunak and the weak Tory government.
If Labour were in government there would be no difference in profiteering, in fact things would probably be worse, more fool you if you think otherwise.

Anyway on the cost of car parking in Liverpool you will fork out a lot and come back to find your car on bricks or even gone, still all the recent fuss about the northern lights but you can see them most nights in Liverpool.

My experience is they are well under filled There are two major car parks in Newport and I have not seen more than 50% capacity in the smaller and 20% capacity in the larger Cwmbran's main car parks which before the pandemic were rammed see barely one in ten spaces taken at 9:30 on a Saturday and one in twenty in the weekdays (these were pre pandemic filled with office and shop workers)

Fairsociety states his non Right wing case on this issue, a view he is of course entitled to hold. But as Andrew indicates Free Market advocates rejoice in poorer home owners on Merseyside teaming up with innovative enterprises such as Airbnb to enjoy the financial fruits that derive from stepping in to provide some of the accommodation capacity that the city's big providers can't cope with. Why should the law come in and clobber the small homeowner in such cases, their home should be their castle, and their decision alone as to who can use it and at what cost. The alternative being that hotel chains & B&B's would be able to demand even higher prices if Airbnb didn't exist ...... they've come into existence and thrived because there is a demand and people are willing to pay.
Do you value the 750 quid or the accommodation more ? If you value the cash more, then keep it in your pocket. If you value the accommodation more then enter into the free consensual exchange. If you want something cheaper stay in Skelmersdale and drive in, or catch the bus on the day of the concert.
