Almost no recorded cases of disability benefit fraud despite DWP crackdown: 'PIP fraud is a non-issue' The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has released new statistics showing that fraud in the disability benefits system is a 'non-issue'
ISABELLA MCRAE 17 May 2024 dwp pip/ disabled person Campaigners fear disabled people are being "demonised" by the government. Image: Unsplash SHARE There are almost zero recorded losses to the taxpayer due to fraud in the disability benefit benefits system, new statistics from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show.
Personal independence payment (PIP) fraud stood at 0% in the financial year ending 2024. Meanwhile, disability living allowance (DLA) fraud was just 0.1%, which was rounded to £0m.
It comes as the government continues its drive to tighten disability benefits, eradicate “sick-note culture” and crack down on fraud within the welfare system more widely.

In Rochford Essex during the60s/ 70s there was a gypsy hard man called Golden Spearman . Not a man to cross. I read in the local newspaper , at the time (after he was convicted of something or the other ) that he has claimed benefit for years due to him damaging his hand . Those were the days .

Currently taxpayers are shelling out £292 million in disability payments to people claiming ADHD, while back in 2013 , when the scheme started , it was only costing £700K, a staggering rise of 400%.
The payments are part of £5.1 billion of public money given out last year in Personal Independence Payments (PIP) for mental health issues, compared with £34.4million in 2013.
Anyone who honestly believes that mental health disability has genuinely risen 400% in the last 10 years is probably in receipt of PIP themselves.

But it does look good for the usual Tory claims of "stop the scroungers" and of course your average Daily Mail reader.
Its Froth, a sidetrack, a gimmick, aimed at the Hang em and Flog em Brigade, yes lets punish the scroungers.
The Tories have nothing else to say, nothing to offer, only the usual caustic rhetoric

At 300billion + Anyone who dosent belive that to high is probadly in receipt of pension themselves. And you don't Believe DWP own findings. Do you know what pip is for a yes or no will do. Because it seems you haven't a clue. And if anyone who doesn't believe after 14yrs of tory Government don't effect anyone mental health. Must be mentality Ill themselves.

Agreed, but when it comes to fraud it's not the genuinely disabled who are the problem.

The number of people today in this sick note culture who claim to be suffering from PTSD is incredible, you would think the poor dears had just gone through the blitz or the D-Day landings. Not that todays pampered lefties would know anything about such things.

Agreed, but when it comes to fraud it's not the genuinely disabled who are the problem. Who do you Consider genuinely disabled red? As at August last year 22.6 million people were claiming £132 billion a year in out of work benefits of some description. That's £11 billion a month. It's ridiculous and it's not sustainable. One way of reducing the benefits bill would be to treat illegals in this country the same as they're treated in the EU.
