Smart meters, smart motorways neither of which is true,we are taken for and treated like fools and these people are paid handsomely for doing so. Anyone wonder why trust in politicians and voter turn out is so low,the Blair puppet may well make no 10 but it will be a hollow victory.

This afternoon the phone rang, landline phone. I picked up the phone and said hello, so far so good, but it went rapidly downhill. A woman said Mr Rackham? And without waiting for conformation asked for a date when it would convenient to have my free smart meter fitted, she didn't stop talking. Since she was not allowing me to speak I hung up.
These companies like to give the impression we have to have smart meters fitted and that may come to pass at some point, but right now it's the consumers choice. But with a pro net zero Labour government on the horizon...

I don't really mind them calling, I rather enjoy telling them to get stuffed. The only reason I put the phone down earlier is because she just wouldn't stop talking. Not like a woman, lol.

These people used to do it all the time with me, but I learnt if you really are furious with them then they will put you on the blacklist and leave you alone. The reason is if their staff had to deal with many like that they would simply leave the job.

So the boss of British Gas says (less than) smart meters should be compulsory, why is this **** paid £8 million a year. linkWhen I was a British Gas customer 3 years ago, they installed smart meters at the property I rented. They didn't work properly and they sent me estimated bills. British Gas could not sort them out. Brand new meters. What a shower.

Have you also noticed how the "Weekly Budget" on smart meters is about the cost, rather than units used.
Most people don't waste gas and electricity. Most people use as little of these things as possible because they are bloody expensive. The number of units you use per week is pretty much defined by the efficiency of the electrical equipment you have; most people have the most efficient equipment that can afford.
The "Weekly Budget" is based on the cost of units used, which is based on the price per unit. The Price Per Unit is 100% controlled by the Supplier, NOT he end user. The reason Weekly Budget notifications are listed in £ and not Units is to imply you being in fuel poverty is your fault, when in fact it is the fault of the profiteering suppliers.

All The Best I find it pretty annoying when the smart display (which is an oxymoron) tells us that we have exceeded our weekly budget. In the winter, this is normal, but the "thick meter" display simply divides our average annual expenditure by 12 and does not take into consideration seasonal variations. The companies also tell the lie that your "smart meter" will save your money. The smart meter doesn't save anything, because it uses a small amount of electricity as it is plugged into the mains.

Just a thought since the meter is taking readings for a consumer for which the company can charge should it not come with some form of calibration certificate traceable to national standard or at the very least some form of inhouse calibration annually? I know the standard meters come calibrated.

I know the standard meters come calibrated. They are easy to check for yourself, Sandy. For example, if everything is off, with a few items on standby, there is a load of around 30W Switch on a 2kW kettle and it will register how much is being used. Our fridges use exactly the amount they are rated at. If there were any discrepancy it would soon be noticed.

I got a little gadget from China where you plug an appliance like a fridge in, and it will give you all the stats on consumption, cost etc. It cost about 7 quid and actually works!

Why? - what are you going to do if you don't like the results. turn the fridge off?

I thought the idea was to save money, not waste 7 quid.
