! I think the conversation may have gone a tad above my pay grade. ah but has it ? Teachers are, for the best of reasons, ‘liars to children’ It is their job to break down the tough stuff into something a child can comprehend. Even that is the easy bit compared to what comes next The really tough bit comes when the kids in question sus out they were lied to and then the task is to simultaneously provide the factual response that this was necessary whilst also dangling the bait that will have them hooked on chasing tbe reality for the next twenty years plus ….. I understand what you're saying, but when I, and indeed you, embarked on the educational journey back in the early 1960's I don't remember it like that, why would I. Sugar coated indoctrination is designed to be subtle. Having said that, I don't think it's particularly sugar coated today. Today the educational establishment in this country make Marx look positively right wing.

They are all fucked in the head now. It's some sort of curse they are under. I was listening to a Lords debate on woke a while back and it proved my point. This is going to sound very sad I'm sure (lol) but I occasionally watch proceedings in the Lords, and I think it's good job I'm in a microscopic minority because it's not a good advert for democracy that's for sure. Quite often after watching a debate, or some of a debate, I wonder whether their Lordships realise how far from reality they are. They seem to have absolutely no concept of modern life. It's as if they're cloistered in an ermine clad vision of the past. They don't seem to realise and to be honest I don't think they care, that millions of Britons do not share their largely left wing liberal opinions. Back in the old days you would have figures like retired chairmen of ICI and the like being appointed as lords. These guys had a lifetime of experience in the tough world of commerce and whatever else they excelled in. Now we know the appointment's system is corrupted so we are getting appointments of those who scratched the backs of politicians and gave them a healthy retirement plan from the Cayman Islands. I think it is more than that though. As you say, they seem to have totally lost the plot. I don't know if you were aware or not, as someone from the north, but a few years ago London was cocaine central. They figured out how bad it was not from the busts, as that is hardly a reliable indicator, but by the concentrations of it in the water system. Chemical analysis has become extremely sensitive and accurate in recent times. You can figure out how much coke the whole of London does, and that's not all they find in the water supply. Oestrogen and progesterone are another two.

LOL, what a pillock, an ermine clad pillock but a pillock non the less. I wonder what Lord Blencathra's thoughts are on wind turbines that kill up to 100,000 birds every year in the UK alone. Estimates suggest that between 10,000 and 100,000 birds are killed by turbine blade strikes annually in the UK. That's a lot, but it's worth noting that approximately 55 million birds are killed in the UK each year by domestic cats.
Domestic and feral cats are lethal for much animal, bird and insect life in the UK. We seem OK with the idea of trapping mice and poisoning rats, why can't we come up with an acceptable scheme for limiting the number of cats in the UK...?

A thing a lot don't realise about our cats is their ancient relatives were desert cats, and both lived in a very hot sunny environment (why do you think your cat likes the sun so much) and also they roamed great distances.

I live in a small village next to the river, during harvest time all the rats come down from the surrounding fields to our gardens and hedgerows, we have a small grey girl cat, very petit and delightful company, she goes out and kills these rats, she can come and go as she wishes and she will never be made to wear a bell. I dare say that I will be arrested as this is the sort of crime the Police will be focussed on and will put all their resources into, much easier and more fun than attending to burglaries or terrorist marches.

This is Misty, she guards the house against vermin and is a most agreeable companion. A former friend is Jaffa who passed away at the grand old age of 21, he too carried out his duties properly and kept us safe from rabies, dysentery and the plague.

Some cat owners let their pet "shit and piss" indoors. And cats are sources of ailments like: •Cat scratch disease (CSD) — caused by a bacterium called Bartonella henselae, which may be carried in the saliva of infected cats and in the bodies of cat fleas; •Pasteurella multocida — a bacterium found in the mouths of over 70 percent of cats, and it has been found inup to and 80 percent of cat bites in humans and serious enough to seek medical attention; •Salmonella poisoning — salmonellosis, caused by a group of bacteria called Salmonella, and can lead to diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain beginning one to three days after infection. Usually contracted from contaminated food, though can also be contracted from infected cats; •Fleas — the most common external parasite of cats, and can cause itching and inflammation in humans and cats alike, and may also serve as vectors for CSD and other zoonotic diseases. Flea-infested cats may become infected with tapeworms, people can also become infected with tapeworms from these fleas; •Scabies — Sarcoptes scabiei, is a zoonotic external parasite of the skin of cats, that can be passed from infected cats to people, where they burrow into the skin and cause itchy, raised lesions; •Feline intestinal parasites — Including roundworms (Toxocara) and hookworms (Ancylostoma), these parasites can also cause disease in people. Children are particularly at risk due to their higher likelihood of contact with soil that has been contaminated by cat feces; •Fungal Infections — Ringworm (or dermatophytosis). Infected cats continuously drop fungal spores from their skin and fur. Spores remain capable of causing infection for many months and are difficult to eradicate from a household. Children are particularly at risk of infection...

All of the above can be treated with a simple capsule of "frontline" treatment applied every 3 months, simply up end the cat and apply to the back of the neck. However it should be noted that most of the above listed ailments also affect many unemployed socialists around the country, but no one is suggesting that they have to wear bells around their necks. Jaffa was a lovely cat and we still miss him.

It seems you have a downer on cats....Are you a dog person? I have neither, but I'd prefer a dog. For one thing pet dogs can/should be trained — so too should their owners be. The authorities should have greater powers to remove inappropriate dogs, and dogs in inappropriate premises.
A dogs outdoor life is usually under the control of a human, so they are less likely to kill birds, insects, and animals...

The authorities shouldn't have extra powers to do anything, the authorities should concentrate on reducing immigration, reducing tax, stop policemen looking like tramps, reduce traffic jams and get the trains running on time. If a dog feels that it's accomodation is below par it can bite its owner, there is no need for state interference.

Surly before you condem all pet owners you should own one yourself...Many pets are very therapeutic for some people who are not as lucky as us? And how about service dogs and those who lead the blind? Service dogs and pets have broadened the horizon for a great many people who are different from the norm and who have to adjust their daily needs accordingly..

Service dogs and pets have broadened the horizon for a great many people who are different from the norm and who have to adjust their daily needs accordingly.. I'm not surly in my views. We had dogs when I was growing up and they were kept and treated well. And I'm all for guide dogs, assistance dogs — they and their owners/users are trained.
Cats, on the other hand can't be trained. So, if they're wanted as comfort/therapeutic pets, it's my view they should be chipped, neutered, and kept inside overnight as that is when they do the most damage to birds, insects, and animals...
