What offence? None has been established? The point I made, riding furiously is an offence that could be tested in court (hard to prove or not) and carries a sentence should it be proved up to two years in jail. I'd imagine that "Wanton and furious cycling" has a high threshold of proof, similar to dangerous driving. Simply being over a speed limit (which doesn't even apply in this case) would not be sufficient for a successful prosecution.
Personally, I think it's high time that we had a jay walking law - for too long pedestrians have been legally insulated from their own stupidity.

These were built during the effing lockdown andcwere designed by a car hating council to strike fear into all except two wheeled lycra twats. The bus, which used to pull up where the cycle lane is now, has no option except to discharge passengers directly into the path of said cyclists. Incidentally, I've just seen this:
"Transport secretary considers ban on floating bus stops in UK cycle lanes"
It would certainly make sense.

Perhaps so but in this case the woman was walking her dog through a park, what I find perverse was that a woman going about her lawful business and walking on a pavement who waved a cyclist away who was also riding on said pavement was jailed for manslaughter (since overturned) Yet this person has had no legal action of any sort tested against them.

...in this case the woman was walking her dog through a park... When she stepped into the road in front of a cyclist. Sorry, but this was clearly her own fault and I don't see how the cyclist could possibly be prosecuted.

Well if speed limits are going to be reduced to levels so slow that they can easily be exceeded by bicycles then we have a ridiculous situation right there. Cyclists should be obliged to stick to speed limits too. I have heard it said that the twat infested 20mph speed limits in Wales not infrequently results in cars being overtaken by cyclists. And if that fact does not signpost the fact that a twat is in charge of limits, nothing will.

How can a cyclist stick to a speed limit when their bicycles have no speedometers? Plus, most cars can't even give an accurate reading at such low speeds, and bigger cars are actually burning through more fuel in higher gears whilst having to use brakes just to fight the engine. I'm sure we will see 10mph restrictions soon, too.

www.stroudnewsandjournal.co.uk/news/23663818.police-ambulance-called-stroud-high-street-incident/Two police cars and an ambulance were called to the incident at the bottom of the high street. A police spokesperson said: "We were called to High Street in Stroud shortly before 3pm following reports of a collision between a cyclist and pedestrian. "The pedestrian is being assessed by paramedics for a suspected head wound. "Emergency services remain at the scene." ************************************* Cyclists regularly (numerous times a day) speed down the hill (which is a one way up the hill for delivery vehicles pedestrianised street) when there are lots of pedestrians about. Some time ago the town council, at my suggestion, contacted the roads authorities suggesting that a large yellow NO CYCLING should be painted on the road at the top of the street. The response was: "There's sufficient signage". There are NO SIGNS telling cyclists (in words) that they are not allowed to use this part of town. There are lots of dogs about (Stroudies love their dogs) ... maybe something will be done will be done about the "menace" of the cyclists if someone's pet becomes a casualty? Recently electric bikes have been using the street ... speeding UP the hill. Motor vehicles that use the street crawl up at walking pace. There is also the problem of mobility scooter users who are idiots who lack road sense.

It seems that riding furiously is still an active law from the 1860’s so why wasn’t that applied to this person who killed the pedestrian. Maybe because furious cycling is a difficult offence to prove. This cyclist was travelling at 29mph. The lady crossing the road did not look properly, so it wasn't the cyclist's fault, was it? Pedestrians have responsibilities, too.Yes they do. But, unless it has changed since last I read it, the Highway Code is quite clear that once a Pedestrian has one foot on the road they have right of way. So even if that Pedestrian was not being as aware as they should have been they still had right of way, and the onus was therefore on the cyclist to avoid an incident. All The Best

Pedestrians have responsibilities, too. True — but the latest edition of the Highway Code appear to rank road users' importance in similar order to their vulnerability — eg, horses, pedestrians, cyclists, then three-wheelers and over...
But it doesn't explain why pedal and electric cyclists get away with so much...
