Patriotism is loving where you're from and there's no shame in that. It doesn't mean hating anyone else. I am a patriot. Get over it. You can love you country without putting a name to it So when someone asks us where we live we have to say 'it has no name', we are nomads.

My country is the UK, whether you like it or not, it has four patron saints.
St George however is the one who gave his life in a stand against tyranny, so, whilst he never actually set foot here, and was about as English as Nelson Mandela's toenail clippings, he did something commendable.
He didn't slay any dragons, but he did stand against evil. His stand should be remembered, commemorated and honoured by all of us.
He was a shining example of basic human decency.

Saint George's Day Parades were once common and popular, and were often part of the Church calender, but that was in the days when people simply celebrated our patron saint in all good faith and with good humour, they were family and community orientated.
The parade in London WAS NOT about St Geotges Day, it was 100% political, and hijacked by the far right, to use for their own ends and purposes.
Any rally which has at its centre a speech from Tommy Robinson, the well known thug and racist, is going to attract attention from both his opponents and the police.

We should ditch the celebration of an adopted Saint and use the day to celebrate a a great Englishman. Make it Enoch Powell day 👍

Funny how these strong responses never happen on a Saturday..2 tier policing Assaulting revelers for being on the streets in patriotic attire is bad policing, the officers in charge and participating, should be sacked, fined and prosecuted.

No it shouldn't be banned . What should be banned is the coke fuelled drunken thugs that follow the idiot that is Tommy Robinson . A peaceful meet up of flag wavers on Richmond Terrace was spoiled by the appearance of the not invited serial arsehole and his cohorts who proceeded to 'March'down Whitehall toward Parliament which was outside the agreed area of the celebration and was something the police had asked the organisers specifically not to do Its a shame that people can't celebrate our Englishness or our St George Day without these pricks turning up ,but there you go ,a clear case of provoking an incident with the police so they could claim (daft fuckers) a case of two tier policing and point at the Palestine marches as their proof . Is that actually a true account of what happened? It seemed more widespread than that.

The thing is with this Robinson bloke is that he and his followers seek confrontation ,he has a record of violence and unprovoked cowardly attacks so when he and his mates mob up and start marching down the road like a load of 1970's football hooligans in our capital City its no wonder that the police deal with it .

St Georges Day should be celebrated in the same way the Paddies celebrate St Paddies day. Loads of beer, drunkenness and happiness. And have mock helmet hats in pubs. And obviously keep the parades, it gives Scouts and Cadets something to look forward to. Having witnessed St Patrick’s and St George’s days for around 20 years in London, I can’t say that I’ve seen celebrations for either cause disruptions where I’ve been — however, I can’t say that I’ve been aware of St George being celebrated with anything like the enthusiasm of St Patrick. March 17 sees the pubs and clubs really heaving round here. Yesterday, there wasn’t much going on at all — I’ve seen more action in Wetherspoons on a Burns Night…!

Yes - it was a classic example of 2 tier policing. It's the police who spark the violence.

Funny how these strong responses never happen on a Saturday..2 tier policing Its quite simple , keep to the designated route of the parade or place of protest and everything goes off without hassle . We would be the first to complain and do when people start doing as they please . Everyone has the right to go where they want in safety and without hassle including people working in Westminster Palace where the mob were heading .The police had told organisers that route was off limits It doesn't happen on Saturday's because the Mussas keep to areas they are told to keep to and there's a big difference between protesting ,marching or whatever on a weekday and the weekend when the government offices are normally closed .
