Strange, I live in a fishing port where men, including my own family have fished out of for generations, and I have never heard of any vessel going as far as the Bering Sea, as far as I can recall a tiny handfull of deep sea trawlers from the larger ports used to fish there. From Fraserburgh to Aberdeen, from Whitby, Yarmouth Towns the fleets away at the break of day, to the Northern minch and the Norway deeps, and the banks and holes for the North Sea shoals, and off to the Yarmouth quay. The biggest proportion of Cod sold in UK fish & chip shops comes from the waters around Iceland, and whilst some is caught by British vessels, a lot is caught by Icelandic vessels and imported. Oh I must inform our trawler skippers who are catching cod just off berry head...And very nice they are too...

In 2019, the UK imported 105,000 tonnes of cod, valued at £572 million ($743 million) and equivalent to 91% of UK cod consumption. [vii] The UK consumes 115,000 tonnes of cod every year.[vi] Surprisingly, this cod does not typically originate from UK waters. The UK is one of the most significant importers of cod in the world – by species, cod imports were the second highest in terms of total value of all the species imported into the UK in 2019 – 21.8% of total imports by value – second only to salmon at 23.0% of seafood imports. Britain’s cod supply is mainly sourced from Iceland (27.1% of the total) planet-tracker.org/cod-astrophe-unsustainable-uk-cod-exports-face-demand-side-squeeze/#:~:text=Britain%E2%80%99s%20cod%20supply%20is%20mainly%20sourced%20from%20Iceland,equivalent%20to%2091%25%20of%20UK%20cod%20consumption.%20%5Bvii%5D

The EUSSR have done fuck all to save fish stocks. Untill a few years ago there were thousands of tons of fish thrown overboard due to EUSSR rules....
Millions of tonnes of dead animals: the growing scandal of fish waste....

If you dont anything about the fishing industry, it would be wise to keep quiet.
The depletion of North Sea stocks of white fish including Cod began as soon as the Trawler was invented ( the steam trawler), and scientists began warning governments in the 1950s.
European Regulations have, without a doubt, saved some species from extinction, and EU rules, though not perfect, have ensured (A) that some species have not disappeared completely, and (B) seen a turnaround in stocks of all white fish, meaning there is a future for UK white fish, but not on the scale it once was.
80% of UK caught fish is exported mostly to Europe, and most of these exports are high value produce including shellfish and salmon.
UK CAUGHT COD ------------- One key reason why it is difficult to sell UK caught cod in the UK, is because North Sea cod lost its acreditation status (MSC Approval) from the Marine Stewardship Council, and many large buyers (retailers) wont deal in any fish not approved by the MSC, instead only buying fish from sustainable sources.
The Marine Stewardship Council took away the approval because in their view, stock levels fell below what they term as a "safe biological level".

Total bollocks fiddles our waters miraculously became unclean on dec 31 2019....Yet another fuckover by the EUSSR...Funny how the fucking EUSSR were still importing UK fish on the 30th of december that year....And I see you usual EUSSR luvies ignore the fact that millions of tons of caught fish had to be thrown back under order of the wankers in brussels..
